Caper has a lazy RIAT in 2017 (largish post)

Post by capercaillie »

Another one come and gone, and after a hot mostly sunny summer, the weekend of Fairford just didn't play ball, so I slept instead. Wednesday was frustrating with the change of ends, it just doesn't leave it the best for anybody. Thursday very little caught the sun despite some prolonged sunny breaks and from a personal point of view, the Friday display just seemed a little short, and with some sun around seeing the Rafale, Tornado and Su27 just sat there doing nowt, while the usual acts performed seemed a waste really.

Still Monday relieved the frustrations somewhat and thanks to st24 for the amusing comedy moments in between the arrivals.

Mostly departures but hey ho.
Forget the Americans being the stars when these are in town.

Part two to follow.

Not sure why this year the images at 1600x won't load properly and at 1024x look fuzzy? Any clues? :dunno:

Canadian debutants were most welcome, great effort on departures putting all the overseas helicopters past the FRIAT stand.

Nice to see all those schemes.
Can you guess which day I dropped a while ago to invest in other trips and avoid repetition......

Great set, mate, though I think they could look a tad better with their shadows pulling.

F-22 topside is a beaut!

Very nice! Love the first Flanker shot and the Mirage shots.

I agree the shadows could bear lifting a bit... and cropping on a few shots is just a wee bit tight for my taste.. but no big deal :-D

Thanks for the feedback guys, I've adjusted a few with the shadows, hope they look a little better, its always tricky to know how much to adjust to leave it as natural looking as possible. A last few added after another look.

Wrong lens  :wall: :cuppa:

Nice one! Some look a bit blue on my screen - what colour space are you shooting/processing with?

It's an interesting how tastes vary. I'm not a big fan of over-processing.

Which days were you there and where?

Dr, I was there Wednesday to Friday for arrivals and first show day, frustrated by all the good static stuff which according to the published list should have been in the public zones, instead being out of bounds in green, whilst awful company tat was readily available and taking up vast areas in the middle. No idea why so much was out of reach when only four aircraft arrived after the flying display into the static on the Friday - three F-16s and an Apache, if ever the opportunity to open up existed?

I skipped the airdays down to the weather and ventured back on the Monday which was glorious

Rich, I have no idea  I point the glassy bit at the aircraft, shoot, put them on the laptop, crop and straighten and that's about it. My photoshop program is on my broken PC, so not much else I can do at the moment. :dunno: I appreciate there is a skill in post processing, which can also be taken too far at times, I really don't like these HDR images.

Did park and view east Wed-Fri (or should I say yellow zone on Friday?!). Didn't bother going up west on Wednesday afternoon as we realised we'd only got one ladder in the car and can hardly share. Mind you I'm not that worried, it was nice to see the Phantoms with their chutes and the man handling of the U-2. We were out and about on Sat/Sun but the clag was awful leading to very little decent photography. It's meant that some contributors have had to massively over-process, understandable but not really my cup of tea.

Binned Mondays a couple of years ago ......

Non-access of decent static on Friday sounds a pain. Couldn't be bothered with trying personally - too busy enjoying the relative solitude.

Good trip though. They usually are!
