On Saturday 14.10.2017 an open day event was organized on the 86th Romanian Air Force airbase - located close to the Danube in the middle of the Romanian plain called "Baragan", 120 km east of Bucharest. It is an iconic place for the Romanian military aviation, the airbase also called "Borcea" being the home of some of the most famous Romanian fighter pilots flying the Mig 21. In the past years the base has been heavily modified to house the first Romanian squadron of F16s - the 53 Warhawks, with a legacy starting during the Second World War when thy flew the Hurricane and Me 109. It was a good opportunity to see the F16 at its home and the flight schedule of 4 hours included most of the types in the RoAF, some civilian aircraft but also external guests - F16s from Portugal also flying out of Borcea and the Canadian CF18 flying out of Mihail Kogalniceanu airbase close to the Black Sea. The nice weather also helped a lot. Enjoy!

ROAF 86 Airbase - Borcea Open Day

Love the burning mig shot

Re: ROAF 86 Airbase - Borcea Open Day
Really nice series of shots & well worth the visit! I think shot 34 is my favourite, mainly because that's an amazing steep climb within photographic range. Must've commenced it from quite a low altitude because the controls appear neutral?
Also of note is the RoAF only seem to have got 'one-free' Sniper Pod (seen on '1605') with their purchase of umpteen F-16's.

Thank you! The Mig is flown by Mr. Gica Stancu - the Romanian demo pilot; he is really good!

Ref the Mig climb - it was almost vertical...
Ref the Sniper - what do you get for free in aviation these days?? The correct formula is "an undisclosed number of Sniper pods".... Apparently it is the Sniper Advanced Targeting Pod (ATP)... http://www.lockheedmartin.com/us/news/p ... niper.html
