Luke AFB Open House 2018

Post by Fumbles »

Hello everyone again.. Hot on the heels of my MCAS Yuma thread. On the Sunday after Yuma we visited Luke AFB for their open house. The weather played ball for the most part, slowly high clouds moved in for the afternoon just as the sun swung round to be in your face for the Blue Angels. This would be why I don't have many photos of the team flying. Almost all of the Blues Angels pictures turned out to be silhouettes! All and all a good show, but we did find it to be very drawn out with lots of filler acts. Luke did have much more static then Yuma but scattered over a very vast amount of space. By the end of the day you feel like you have done a full walk around RIAT. Big upset for the day was the price of food at Luke compared to Yuma. For example.. A burger at Yuma was $6 for the same burger at Luke $11 to $14 depending where you bought it from. I will say though... Luke knew how to get people out of the show and not sit in traffic! Sundays show must have had a record sized crowd and as soon as the Blue Angels finished. The mass all left at the same time. Traffic management was so good we were on the highway within 15 minutes of walking off base.
All and all a good show, I don't think I would do this one again. Highlights were a static Japan F-35, Luke air power home team demo and a unique Heritage Flight and a huge welcome back to the A-10 Demo Team. Also to note.. The Tora Tora Tora display was awesome!
On with some of the pictures taken. Sorry some may seem blurry. The heat haze and smoke at this show was a big problem.

1. A panoramic phone shot of 3 F-35s for static... This is the future of airshows.
