Upottery Airfield June 2018

Post by FastJetsBest »

Hey all,

A great little event at Upottery airfield for a D-Day event which included a DC-3 Dakota. This is the first time a parachute drop has departed from the airfield since 1944.

Weather was really bad yesterday which was meant to be a one day event, so these pictures are from yesterday and today. I have so many pictures to look at and edit so I will add more over the next few days.

Some excellent photos there! Thanks for sharing!

Were the other aircraft on the ground too in addition to the Dakota? I’m amazed that anything would be able to operate from the main runway now as it looked in pretty poor condition when I passed it in early April!

Some lovely photos there..! Very atmospheric

I'm sure there a simple explanation but why were the hinges etc on the rear doors covered and taped over? Shame because it detracts from the overall impression in my opinion..Unless of course it was standard practice back in 1944 then well done for simulating that too...

I think it may have something to do with the static line/parachute bags banging against those areas, there's a lot of weight and flayling which could damage the hinges/handles on the loading door.

Excellent set.
I love it when old disused airfields come to life like this.

I do like this set, it's unusual and of a great subject.

Thanks.

Yeah all the aircraft in the pictures landed. It was cleaned up a bit before the event.
