Inside Shawbury's hangers.

Post by boff180 »

Hi guys,

Today I spent an excellent morning in the company of a number of different aviation tour groups; ferreting around such a very interesting and sad place. Big thankyou to everyone involved and the RAF!

Comments as always welcome; as you can guess the lighting was terrible in the hangers; all shots handheld with a liberal helping of whitebalance modification in the computer... thank god for raw!

Thanks for looking.

Andy

Some great pics, didn't realise there was that much stored at shawbury. Which aviation society/societies did you go with?

Some very nice shots in there Andy, the third from last shot is really atmospheric.

Very nice and such a waste to see all that lovely hardware just waiting to be flown!!

I can just see a yellow nose on shot 6. Is that the old display Hawk from a few seasons ago?

Thanks guys for the comments, I was there with Fighter Control yesterday.

Yep, one of the yellow flame birds is stored there; not all the fleet is used at once and the aircraft are stored here for long periods of time until they are used again or are disposed of. A number of crash hulks are stored aswell; (mainly Puma's) plus the remains of the two Squirrels that collided. Also of note, is the Tornado GR4 development bird.

A very very interesting place to visit. Choppers flying everywhere; at one point we had to go the long way round on the bus as a Griffin was hovering extremely low over the road/taxiway infront of us!

Thanks again.

Some of the Hawks are stored for future allocation to the Red Arrows.
