Lest we forget-Operation Market Garden

Lest we forget-Operation Market Garden

Postby antoine on Sun 19 Sep 2010, 4:50 pm

Yesterday, the annual remembrance flights of Operation Market Garden near Arnhem took place, dropping hundreds of paratroopers on a heath also used in 1944.
On this occasion, 3 USAFE Hercs, 1 RAF Herc, 1 C-47 and 1 German Transall (nowadays we're friends again) transported the paras.
Here are some pictures made during the droppings.

I hope that you'll like them.

Greetings,

P.S. Thanks for the sacrifices made by the Polish and British liberators.

At Arnhem there were only British paratroopers and Polish ones, the Americans were dropped off near Nijmegen and Son (near Eindhoven) trying to hold the bridges there, to give way for a fast move forward by groundtroops towards Arnhem from the South. However things weren't as easy as calculated. You can learn more about this disaster in the famous movie "A bridge too far".
