TLP 2011-2 Albacete Air Base Image heavy

A short family holiday allowed me to visit Albacete over three days, 29th-31st March for the second TLP of 2011. Not that many people venture down here, but it is worth the effort. You will find a small band of Spanish photographers on the approach and photography is fine if you avoid getting the base facilities in your images, that is not acceptable to the security forces.

Hope you like my holiday snaps
Image
First up are the locals, they normally fly missions twice each day, around 9am and mid-day with about an hours duration.
Image
I was pleased to get this two seat Mirage F.1, my first at Albacete
Image
The Spanish Mirages are quite dull so this example was a welcome change
Image
The markings hark back to 2005 when "Gran Vista 100" took place
Image
Image
Making a change from most of the flying, 14-20 is well loaded
Image

Image
The weather in Spain over these three days was very good, although not totally free from clouds
Image
During the Winter the Bombadier water bombers come in for overhaul.
Image
Image
One of many "chicken @rses" as they are known locally that flew through the approach
Image
Heavy on approach!
Image
Sister aircraft in the unit arrived on Wednesday for some variety
Image
The airbus was very good to me, flying on both Tuesday and Thursday
Image
The Italian contingent included two Typhoons from 36 Stormo
Image
With differing tail markings as can be seen above on recovery on Tuesday
Image
Thursday saw a change of direction in runways
Image
For me the Greek F-16s from 340 were a highlight
Image
Albacete invokes a noise reduction policy so most departures are up quickly and where possible without burner
Image
534 was thrown around the turn onto finals on Thursday
Image
Support for the Greek participants arrived on Thursday to facilitate departure
Image
The Polish F-16s did not play ball for me, never flying in the sunshine
Image
Two support flights arrived on Thursday
Image
Another of the F-16s , none flew on the final day
Image
The second Polish transport flight
Image
Swiss Hornets with special markings from two squadrons, "Panthers"
Image
And "Falcons" climbing out steeply
Image
Two seater gave us a wave
Image
Swiss support flight was provided by this Beech 1900
Image
French Alpha Jets operated as Red Air, also gave a gallic salute
Image
The CSAR missions saw the French in action again with two Pumas
Image
Flying alongside a Cougar from the host nation

Brilliant selection, love the spanish Waterbombers and the Airbus  , just one thing the French chopper is an older Puma.

Great post

Fantastic shots ! A great base too , I was there in January for the 1st TLP this year .
You did much better with the local Mirages , they're superb . You were lucky with that 2 seater , they seem very elusive - last time I photographed one was at Cameri in 1988 , and that was a camo one !

Best regards, Mark
