Marham Tonkas, (20th Jan, Big update)
A collection of images taken at RAF Marham over the past few days, this is while the sunset is at the optimum position in relation to the runway, I was very lucky to get a day when they were using zero-six and I was the only person there. Mostly I was at the two-four end but walked around for several miles trying to find 'the' best position for top-sides.
Thanks to several people for the company and laughs, especially Rob; and special thanks to one crew who just seemed to get their jet in the right place on each circuit when using zero-six!

Re: Marham Tonkas, blue skies and sunsets!
Wonderful set Nigel. Whilst they are all spectacular, there is one shot which stands out above the others for me... that's number 19; the colours, efflux, slipstream from the starboard wingtip and composition are superb. Fantastic!!!
Re: Marham Tonkas, blue skies and sunsets!
What a great set Nigel love 16 and 19 with the jelly air !
Re: Marham Tonkas, blue skies and sunsets!
Top draw pics, interesting capturing the aircraft from nose to end of jelly air all in focus, must have been a small aperture? outstanding images, all of them

marham at its best, getting a bit popular these days, cracking sunset shots as ever not wishing to take over this thread, but just to prove he does not spend all his time taking photos, caught him out doing something else!!

Focal length of 840mm (600mm +1.4X), (but for this purpose I used 800mm to simplify the calculation) at f10, at a focal distance of 655metres gives a near limit of 500.3 metres and a far limit of 948 metres so I have 448 metres (just over a quarter of a mile) of DoF, however as the far limit is beyond the lens’ theoretical ‘point of infinity’ focus, the acceptable focus (at normal print viewing sizes) extends beyond 948 metres almost infinitely!
It is always worth being familiar with the DoF, aperture and focal length triangle as in many circumstances (I almost always did this pre auto focus) you can set an aperture and lock the focus (turn AF off) at the appropriate hyperfocal distance and get the majority of your images pin sharp (unless you get camera shake!)

11,12 & 16 stand out for me-what a fabulous set!

Yep, thought it was a small aperture, which makes the slow shutter speed difficult to manage, good job

In other circumstances maybe, but at 250 ISO I was at 1/8000th sec, and could have stopped down more, however if I get the sun near to dead centre of frame at f14 or smaller I get a flare hot-spot off the aperture blades!

Outstanding Nigel.
I will give it another go Tomorrow.
For reference I heard a number of Marham jets on the box around 16:00-16:30 Today

Thanks Rich, did you go today? I have been home processing an ever increasing backlog of images, but we had an astonishing sunset in Biggleswade, it had been rubbish weather until about 4pm though!

Re: Marham Tonkas, blue skies and sunsets!
Had a lie in Today and ended up having a drive to Welney marshes.
Was at mildy with a bright glow to the west around 16:30
Guess LN may have been an option but it was too little to late really
Dull Day, hopeing for better Tomorrow
