Egypt Mig-21US and F-7B's

Postby dinovandoorn on Tue 24 Jan 2012, 10:52 am

Finnaly after several years of visiting Egypt ( Hurghada ) i was lucky with a very active airwing last November :-)
The single Mig21-US and three F-7B's flew three times a day with only 20 minute missions...

Oh MiG-od.

Very nice to see, surprised they're not very restrictive on spotters?

Yum yum....and I thought my chicken lunch was going to be good. Out of interest Dino, is there a regaular sqn based here or just 'regular' detachments?

Keep them coming.

Very nice. How good do those F-7B's look.

Interesting colour scheme. Are the high viz colours just to improve their visibility or any other reason?

The high viz markings were added to keep the guys on the ground from shooting at their own planes.

Interesting set indeed, thanks for posting :)

I saw some with similar markings at Aswan a few years ago. Alas I was on a plane and could not get a window seat and a clear shot.

They where first applied to Egyptian combat a/c during the border war with Libya in 1977 after several Egyptian a/c were accidently shot down by their own forces and they seem to have stuck with it ever since.

Great photos from a excellent location, glad you survived to share with us

I saw simillar at Aswan way back in the early 90's, and I had a window seat. Unfortunately I was unaware of a military prescence there, so just had to sit and watch them as we taxied by, my camera tucked away in my cabin baggage under the seat.

Good side on shots, and pic 8 is nice. Were so used to "GREY" now, that all that bright colouring is like being jabbed in the eyeball with rusty 6" nails.
"Nice pics mate" comments only! No criticism please.

The orange hi viz panels on Egyptian airccraft started with the punitive raid into Libya...it emulates the same used by the Israeli air force...as those were now considered "friendly".
