Here's to us.....Still Rippin' (VFA-11 Super Hornets)

Post by Matthew Clements »

Guys,
Here is a selection of shots from my time spent with VFA-11 "Red Rippers" recently whilst underway on-board the ‘Big E’, during its 22nd and Final Deployment:

Want to learn more about the Super Hornet? This Month AIR International has produced a 52-page supplement on Boeing’s Super Hornet covering; weapons and systems, power plant, strike test, top gun, test pilot’s school, carrier operations and ops with the Royal Australian Air Force.

Always good to see you posting Matt, a lovely set!

A few C-130s wouldn't go amiss in a neighbouring thread!

Interesting - both Navy squadrons (VFA-11 and VFA-211) have F models... Most air wings seem to have one squadron with the E and one with the F. Is there a reason for this?

Good Point! CVW-1 is unique in this sense, with it being the only Air Wing equipped with two F/A-18F Squadrons. VFA-11 and 211 both share the FAC(A) mission, and all 3 Super Hornet Squadrons (including 136) are involved in the AAR role.

I think it is mainly to do with displacement – more planes that what there are current Air Wings and Operational CVNs.

Excellent shooting, Matthew.
One of my favourite USN Squadrons.

Really like the CAG bird with the boar's head on the nose too.

Matt

You are a lucky boy. What a great oppertunity, the Big E is such a historic ship. Very nice pics sir.
