Onboard TARTAN51 - 17.04.2015

Hugely privileged to have had this opportunity to do this. Big thanks to 10 Squadron for accommodating us and my own Squadron for organising it. Permission obtained to post these.

Photography onboard is harder than I expected, due to nature of the refuelling tracks over the North Sea you are often shooting into the sun and so getting a good angle, as well as a clean window, avoiding reflections make it pretty tricky.

However, a quite amazing experience and a big tick off the bucket list!

Hats off to you, these are lovely shots. There's something really serene about three Typhoons holding ready for fuel...just seems very well framed

Superb stuff Russ! I was on the ground at Lossie and managed to spot your tanker circling at altitude:

(According to the exif it was taken at 12:02.)

The only downside was the 'planes returning later than they would normally, with the sun almost aligning with the runway.

BTW the 6 Squadron special was being flown by a female pilot...

Mike, good spot. Unfortunately, looking at the time, I think that was TARTAN52 (ZZ335) that went out after us (ZZ332). I don't think we went as far north as Lossie, looking at the virtual map, the furthest we went was off the east coast not too far from Leuchars. Shame, would have been ace if it was us.

What an opportunity, again I'm sat here in my office in a fit of jealousy scrolling through and drooling! A great set, well done!

That's the trouble nowadays, the RAF has so many aircraft  . I recognised a few of the Typhoons from Lossie, put two and two together and came up with a number that wasn't four.
