Belgian Coast: Koksijde rescue

Belgian Coast: Koksijde rescue

Postby sgkoksijde on Wed 05 Aug 2015, 1:51 pm

In the morning there was a rescue exercise with participation of the 40th Sqn. We all hoped to see a seaking landing on the beach again, but they've send their new toy, which didn't land on the beach unfortunatly (probably due to the radom under the fuselage...)

Very nice  Got a soft spot for 40 Sqn and Koksijde, it was the first overseas base and show I went too

How much longer have the Sea Kings got? Last I read they were going to be retired sometime in 2016. Also isn't Koksijde future in doubt?

Very nice pictures. It is evident from Pic No 2, the NH90 has quite a downwash. Having been winched on a number of times by the Sea king, this may have been the problem with it not landing on the beach.

Our seakings will normally soldier on until 2018 if all goes well. The main reason the NH-90 doesn't land on the beach is the radom under the fuselage which had very little clearance between the ground...

On August 24th, 2015, the NH-90s will take over, for the first time, the alert SAR role from the Sea Kings.
