A December visit into the Eagle's Lair

Post by boff180 »

Hi guys,

Two Thursdays ago saw (what I believe to be) the first of quarterly enthusiast base tours at RAF Lakenheath.
UKAR were lucky enough to be invited to the inaugural tour and I attended.

The plan for the tour was an afternoon/evening visit intending to capture afternoon ops of the 56th RQS then move to last chance to capture Eagle operations at Dusk/After Dark.

The weather put pay to that and the awful conditions resulted in the afternoon/evening Eagle missions being scrubbed. The light was extremely poor ruining the photo opportunities with the Jollies. Recognising this the PAO very quickly arranged us permission to visit the F-15C HAS complex as it went dark.

This was intended to be a full UKAR feature report on the base visit however the weather prevented decent photographic content being produced in sufficient volume to support it. However I thought it a shame for the decent shots from the visit not to be seen though.

I hope these shots are of interest, and Merry Christmas to you all.

Andy

Do these tours differ from those that have been run previously? I.e. are they public knowledge and bookable?

Can't comment on previous tours as I've previously only attended media photocalls for deployments.

I'm really not certain of the mechanism for these tours and it wasn't clear, the invite for this one was by email and limited to the first 15 to respond. I'd assume you first need to register your details with them as an "enthusiast" in order to be offered a place? How you go about registering your details, I have no clue.
