Finnish Airforce - May 2018

During w/c 14th May saw the Finnish Airforce hold its annual open doors style events to demonstate its people and machinary in action. Having been to a few of these before, this was the first time in at least 10 years when all four were held on consecutive days, even if this did cause some serious driving logistics. Even more noteworthy was the weather, with perfect weather throughout the week, certainly not the normal going by previous visits. The bases open were Tampere, Kuopio, Rovaneimi and the Army base at Utti, with display flying along side regular flying activities taking place throughout.

Thanks Jake, but no I wont be visiting the 100 Year Show, but will possibly be back again next May if the dates fall kindly again. I've always enjoyed my times Finland, if only for the nice slow pace of life!

And to answer your other question elsewhere, the Mi-8 is a working (it was run during the day) machine, but not a flyer. It seems to be owned and looked after by the helicopter technical school at Utti, where it was towed back to later that day. I did notice there is a Mi-8 on the program for the Tikkakoski show though?
