When she works, she really is an amazingly pretty aircraft. Heres to more successful year for the Vulcan. Great pictures as well.

Particularly keen on the shot of the nose with the gradient. Cracking bit of editing there - works a treat...

I arrived at Waddo last year at about 4pm on the Thurs, having driven straight down from Edinburgh. I'd driven around the base a few times and had the radio tuned to the show's own station, and eventually, after a seemingly interminable wait, word came through that XH558 was on her way. I didn't want to pay to get in to the P&V at that time of the day (hardly worth it), so I dumped the car in a lay-by on the far side of the base and from there walked down a country lane until I was standing at the perimeter fence. I was the only human being around. 558 turned up a few minutes later, and I was treated to my own private display - made all the sweeter by the fact that she did it 3 times and was turning directly above my head! It was the first time I'd seen her since Leuchars 1992, and as I was shooting away I became aware of a strange sound... it was me, cackling away to myself like some sort of crazed loon!
Probably just as well there was no-one else around...
Anyway, here was the cause of my demented laughter:
The only other show I've caught her at so far was Leuchars last year, when of course she didn't fly on the show day itself. Nonetheless she did give a very spirited display before landing and taxiing in on the Friday:
Not quite the Reds/558 formation the organisers had in mind - let's hope for better luck this year:

Some great shots of 558, I have only been out on 3 occasions in the past year, all at Waddington and with the Delta Lady in the air. Last years practice on the Thursday was something else though, Im sure will never be repeated again! Anyway......

Cloud blur at Biggin 2009:
Tarmac blur Biggin 1992:
Rubbish photo quality, but I think it conveys a bit of what a Vulcan display was about; Great Warbirds, Wroughton, also 1992:
