"Don't let the Growlers take all the glory"...

Post by agdickie »

...a voice from a window said as we walked the ramp at NAS Whidbey Island. I couldn't agree more.

Unfortunately what had been promised as a full day on base with night shooting if there was night flying (which there was) turned into a fogbound two hour visit (which we only discovered as we were told that it was over) predominantly around the EA-18Gs. Bit of a bummer to fly all that way for that but that said I did get to walk about the Prowler's home base and I just love that aircraft

Just to give you an idea of how thick the fog was...

The future *spits* looms in the background...

And no more than a few hundred metres (if that) from the ramp it was a beautiful day as can be seen with these 'gate guards' that stand at the junction for the Naval Air Station

A nice set all the same. I had the same weather in Key West trying to shoot A-3's a few years ago.

What a bugga, how many E/A-18s does VAQ-132 have?

Despite the weather and limited time it was still a good tour. Any day with operational EA-6Bs close up has got to be good. And we did get to see three 787s on the way home.

Great pics giving the conditions  It's sad that another classic Naval jet is nearing the end, as you I've always liked the Intruder/Prowle,r but unfortunatey I didn't get to see them enough times.

Always nice to see Prowlers and Growlers.

The Prowlers will soon be gone. Good to take the opportunities to get the Prowlers.

Nice shots in the grey fog.

Tony - Not sure but the only VAQ-132 aircraft that I saw was that one, everything else was VAQ-129 (inc the SuperFs).

Steve - VAQ-132 bird is 166895 and NJ-555 of VAQ-129 is 166899

This isn't a shameless bump by the way, got a serial request via e-mail but no way to contact back - with any luck this'll work.
