Random Flies a Jetstream

Post by Ben H »

Hi all!

This afternoon I returned from a three-day Royal Navy Potential Officer's Air Acquaint Course at RNAS Culdrose. Most of our time was taken up with being Powerpoint-presentation-ed to death by the various based squadrons, but there was always the reward of having a prowl around the aircraft and a chat with the aircrew in the squadron buildings. On Tuesday afternoon, we went flying in a Jetstream T2 courtesy of 750 NAS, whereby we were run through the basics of navigation (dead reckoning), using the radar and doppler. We also had about 20 mins of stick time; great fun!

Anyway, here are a few of the photos I took whilst plotting our course and feeding bearings to the pilot. I'm sure he was just humoring me by pretending to fly on the inevitably wrong course I had just given him

Enjoy!

Our pilot, Roger McDonald, keeps a watchful eye as one of my course-mates makes a turn:

First two and last two in particular are top notch. The 6000ft shot is just spectacular.

So very envious right now...

Very nice photos! Did they give any clue as to when the first King Air is due to arrive?

Cracking toast Gromit

What Jetstream did you use Ben just out of interest?

Thanks very much guys!

@ Sam - no, it's run by the Navy themselves, find out more from your Navy ACLO. And yep, the pilot is indeed Eliott Barr.

@ PeteM - I'm afraid nothing much was said about the King Airs, though early next year seems to make sense?

@ Alex - good to see you too, good luck with getting that FRADU trip!

@ Frostie - Damn.

@ Mark - Tail number was 560, I'm not sure what registration.

@ F-86 - It would appear not. The whole watermark/border/save process is a Photoshop Action, I'll take a look at it later.

Lovely photos Ben , really interesting stuff there!

I used to work on early civvy Jetstream 31s and they were ancient 'cockpit-wise' , your pictures illustrate how pre-historic the Navy T-birds really look inside

Thanks for posting them.
