Sharjah - 16 Nov --Updated--

Post by SilverWingPix »

During my visit to the UAE I decided to bite the bullet and pay the hefty price for a one-day photo permit with ramp access at Sharjah. The photo permits were only made avilable again this year after almost four years. Here´s the first impressions, with more coming as I get them ready:

Fantastic-thinking of going in April. Were you escorted, or allowed to roam free as before? Dis you cover the whole field by foot or had the use of a car?

Hammerhead, very clever of you to point out the benefits of Google!! I was asking if the facts on the SHJ website are correct, last time I was there they let you roam about on your own but stated that you were escorted on their website.

Are you OK to let the poster answer me now?
Thanks for looking!!

Guys,

Sharjah has certainly changed a lot since my last visits over four years ago. The props were missing I´m afraid, Paul and I only logged one AN-12 and one AN-26 (I will post them later). On the the plus side I logged no less than 18 IL-76´s, however only with 3 moving during the day. A finnish spotter I spoke to had logged 30 different IL-76´s in three days one day had no less than 5 IL-76 arrivals in the afternoon.

With regards to roaming around on your own like in the good ol´ days. Yes and No - Meaning you have an aircon bus taking you to the ramps. Usually the driver will drop U off at one end of the ramp and pick u up at the other. While on the ramp you can "roam freely". I, in fact, found this nicer than in the past were you easily walked several miles between the ramps. When not doing the ramps you are left to yourself by the fire station right next to the runway/taxiway.

The old main ramp just adjacent to the terminal is off limits nowadays, but mainly hold the Air Arabia A320´s and other regulars.

Hope this answers some of the questions.
