Requiem for the Wooden Wonder

Post by Fred Martin »

I have just finnished scanning a batch of old warbird slides that rarely see the light of day , and these shots brought a lump to my throat . It seems such a long time ago now , since the Mosquito was a regular performer on the airshow scene , just shows you , never take anything for granted .

Up there with the best RR299 shots I've seen posted on here. Indeed, much-missed! Where were shots 4 + 5 taken, incidentally?

Something I think we are all guilty of to a point in regards to the airshow scene. Fantastic shots of her.

A great memory of the Mosquito was popping into Salisbury Hall after seeing a sign on the roadside that they had a bit of an airshow,I had no idea and it was just sheer luck that we visited the RSPCA centre next door on THE flying day, what was special was as soon as we had parked up we heard the Merlins and it came in low and fast, and did some tremendous passes.... we had had the Mosquito flying around when it was based at Hatfield, but never like this..........I still rarely go anywhere dressed up without my Mosquito aircraft museum badge on my lapel

I was looking at my miniature Corgi version of the Mosquito (the Corgi Collection Guy Gibson one) recently and just thought tragic shame that there isn't an airborne Mosquito now. I was really horrid what happened with RR299 and R.I.P. to the crew.

Didn't realise that Mosquito was aparently the Tornado/ MRCA of it's day.

Wonderful bit of nostalgia - thanks for sharing them. I wonder if we will ever see one fly again?

Great shots i would have loved to have seen her in the flesh. Im pretty sure there is a restoration either in Canada or Australia underway to airworthy condition.
