OK-PIK - the Far Side
Tue, Jan 19 2010 4:47 PM
The first of eight B737-800 aircraft to be acquired by South African low cost operator Kulula departed Shannon today for Ostrava where final preparations will be carried out prior to delivey to the southern hemisphere later this month. The aircraft, msn 28612 had registration OK-PIK taped on for the return flight to the Czech airport. The paint scheme on the port and starboard is different insofar as the arrowed text highlights different features on each side of the frame.

ZS-ZWP in Kulula "flying 101" themed colours
Mon, Jan 18 2010 6:39 PM

The tranformation on GECAS B737-86N msn 28612 is complete. On Sunday last, January 10 the aircraft arrived in Shannon from Ostrava registered OK-PIK in the full colours of failed French carrier Axis Airways. Today the aircraft made a brief appearance from the Eirtech Aviation paint hangar (formerly Lufthansa Technik) having been painted for its next life with South African low cost carrier Kulula.com.

Kulula aircraft colour schemes are that bit different from the norm and msn 28612 continues the trend. To be registered ZS-ZWP on delivery to South Africa, the company has developed "flying 101" as the theme for this frame. The aircraft is adorned with lots of text highlighting the various parts of the aircraft from the registration which is "secret agent code" to "engine #2" and the cockpit which has "sun roof" above the "co captain" window which is just behind the "nose cone". The aircraft is due to depart Shannon tomorrow but will have the Czech registration taped on for the flight back to Ostrava.

Love all of that scheme except the bit about the 'black box'. Always nice to be reminded about crashing just before you get on the plane :ninja:
