Atsugi Updates - 25th Feb

Post by leonardm »

Hi All

Last Thursday I spent the day at Atsugi. All accounts a good day - great variety and nice selection of new hardware.

Lucky to get visiting P3 from almost all the Japan squadrons. The "5" on the tail shows this one comes all the way from Naha Okinawa.

Happy to catch the XP-1 - first time I have seen it move.....

New residents VFA-115 Eagles have now painted their cag bird with new markings. Instead of the modex number it has "EFR!" on the top of the tails which is reported to stand for "Eagles Forever Rule !" ?

(see old markings here on Dec 23rd) http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/pp10 ... 63_800.jpg

VFA-102 are busy flying their new block 2 Hornets.

VAW-115 are about to exchange their E-2s with VAW-117 which is currently around Hong Kong. This VAW-115 E-2 already has new markings VAW-117 "USS Nimitz"

thanks all

Excellent set indeed. The Jet with bumps is particularly splendid.

Very nice catches you have there shots 2 & 3 looks very much like a HS748 and what is the XP-1 derived from or is it a brand new design.

Thanks for sharing

the HS748 lookalike is a YS-11, and the XP-1 is a brand new design.

Re the P-1 - nice shot, btw - I think you will find this is the first production example and thus a P-1 rather than an XP-1. The only XP-1 is 5501, which features a much more jazzy colour scheme, whereas this is in what is probably going to be the operational finish. FYI, four production P-1s were funded in the FY08 budget, presumably 5502 to 5505. Love that Prowler as well...

That P-1 is amazing, like a really ugly duck or something. Great images too!
