Hi All,

I'm one of the new additions to both the nightshoot and this forum (at least in a posting sense).

A quick question, if I may, aimed at the people who have previously attended.

Roughly what focal length lenses should I be looking at bringing to get a full frame shot at the distance we will be from the aircraft.

Cheers,

Neil

I use my 18-200mm lens and trying to remember exif info I think most of my photos for side views were around the 35mm mark.

Neil

35mm was for the larger aircraft. The exif info for the image below shows it at 55mm

This should give you some idea of how close. Where the tripods are, there are 2 white lines that we are not allowed to cross.

Hope that helps

This event is proving to be so popular that we are looking at bringing the "report to the gate" time forward to ensure we can process everybody through in good time. We will keep you posted!

It looks like the first display Hawk might just be out of the paintshop in time for its first public appearance at Northolt next week!

Fingers crossed all the post painting checks and weighing will be done in time.

The boys in the paintshop have been working around the clock - here are some shots of their progress:

See you all next thursday!

We have confirmation of all participating aircraft except the CL415 which is weather dependent. Hopefully that will come through early next week. I will be sending an e-mail out this weekend to all of those photographers who have booked giving joining instructions.

Trouble is if rain is forecast it usually results in copious amounts of green sticky tape around the cockpit seal on the Tonka to keep the inside dry! If we get a nice dry night we may be able to get the 41 Sqn ground crews to leave at least one canopy open for a while to add a bit of variety!

Believe me you do not want it to rain at a night event! Like phil said it gets into places it shouldn't be, and causes havoc. I know I just had to sort our shoot out because of it  . A fire engine is much the prefered way to put water down.
Phil I'm looking forward to you event, its much nicer being on the punters side of the fence! I have an idea what your going through this week so good luck and I will see you thursday.
