Black Cats on the Prowl @ Cranwell

Post by dinger »

I was lucky enough to attend a visit to RAF Cranwell and in particular, photograph the Jaguars that are utilised for the final phase of Engineering Officer training. They are used in varying scenarios and the training is used so as to see if the trainees cut the mustard when the pressure is on. There are 4 single seaters, all painted black, as well as 4 twin tubs. Two of the twin tubs are gloss black and the other two are the ex Boscombe Down Raspberry Ripple examples. It is hoped that one example will become available for use from the Boscombe jets and it will remain in the Raspberry Ripple scheme.

Many thanks go to Reheat Module for organising the trip. Also, thanks and appreciation go to the staff at Cranwell for hosting us during our visit.

blakey wrote:Very nice, ive been passing these everyday and saw a fire engine with its lights flashing parked in front of them one day, wonder if that was a practise too

Anyway like i say, very nice to see them up close

The fire engine was all part of the training scenario. According to the training staff it was responding to a simulated brake fire in order to see how the trainee Engineering Officer would handle the situation.

Great to see the Jaguars moving under their own power, looking great in black livery - terrific photos Kevin, thanks for sharing.

They've got to be the best shots we've seen of the Cranwell Jags on UKAR.
Top bombing!

Another nice set there Kev! You did really well on them given the gloss finish & strong sunlight, very nice result indeed. I almost stuffed my car into a hedge last time I went by & they were off on a 'mission' ;)

The Jags should be out and about this Friday as the Students course comes to an end. It will be nice when the Raspberry Ripple example becomes available for use as well.
