Friendly Pilots - (Add your Shots)
Friendly Pilots - (Add your Shots)
Just one of my crazy ideas...
I'm sure we've all got some good photos of a friendly member of aircrew (or groundcrew) so here is the thread to post them in...
Very enthusiastic display pilot from RAF Valley,
And a friendly Red Arrow pilot in the back of this Squirrel taking of at Fairford 2008,
Another friendly Squirrel crew - this time at Valley,
Feel free to post yours (as I'm sure there'll be much better than mine!)

I reckon I need to find a few good low flying spots in the North East, but here are my ground photos of the Red Arrows departing Newcastle Airport after the cancelled Sunderland Airshow.

Re: Friendly Pilots - (Add your Shots)
Odd to post a text thread I know, but I must relate a story of the Turkish Stars about ten years ago when they first came to RIAT. North side was very quiet in those days. Just me and a half a dozen other soaks. Various aircraft (I particularly remember the Fulcrum) would veer straight towards us on the taxiway and stand on the brakes to give us a bow, or the Tornados would do whatever it is they do to give that wailing Whoop, Whoop! All very nice. Waves everywhere. How can you top that?
Stories of the Stars are legend, but we were probably the only people that many of the flyers really saw in those days. The team drew off at C North and there were lots of enthusiastic waves, gesticulations etc. You could see the smiles behind the masks. One of the latter aircraft drew our attention. The canopy was up, but there was a lot of activity in the front seat as he approached us, the glorious whiff of paraffin filling our noses. Our smiles dropped in utter disbelief as the pilot unbuckled everything and then stood up with both hands waving and turned to face us, his chariot still trundling along at around 20 mph. Someone, somewhere, has this on video. If it is you, then please contact me. I have seen some jaw dropping things, but this one takes the cake.
As for the pics here, they are all superb, but the low level shots are staggering. Particularly the Tonka, the Hawks and Good God - The Eagle. Humbling innit?
