North Weald & DX plus tricky spit landing 25-04-10

Post by SEMAE »

Hi

Drove to North Weald in the horrible rain all the way up the A3 then the M25 and arrived at about 10am. I waited patiently queuing to park on the grass whilst the Dakota taxiing into position. Then waited to 2pm for the Mustangs to arrive. Just after 2pm and deciding to wait no more, I put my big lens away. Seconds after they arrived.

It was a nice day out in the end but I only took a few photographs in the afternoon but I would definately go again.

At 3pm I drove to Duxford and waited for the Duxford based aircraft to arrive back from North Weald. The majority of the pictures shown here are from Duxford . One Spitfire had an interesting landing which gave me a bit of a flutter whilst photographing it. Does not look like any damage was done.

Thanks for looking.

Martin

Nice shots there and great catch on that landing, looks quite hair raising for the pilot and his passenger. Seems he done a good job recovering it.
Cheers

Thanks

I can see the ripple in the wing now

Apparently John Romain was in the back seat. The pilot is new. However, whillst I am no expert, I think he did very well to get out of a dodgy situation. It was breezy.

Cheers

Nice shots, and a stunning capture on the Spit landing, for all the wrong reasons of course!.......

Well done, and thanks for sharing.

I thought the Spitfire with the tricky landing was going to be PL344 Its left wheel didn't locate correctly after take off at North Weald and was partly down when it flew past although it appeared to have been fully up as the Spitfire flew away.

Great set of photos, the 2 seater in difficulty is nicely captured

Really good captures of the Spitfire incident. Something in there for POTW I should think.

Thanks

Unfortunately due to speculation on another forum, I have decided to remove image four and five of the Spitfire landing.

Cheers

Look at the damage to the aileron in pic.6.

PV202 has a rough time of it of late.
