2010 Abingdon Charity Air & Country Show

The press could have a field day with this "Charity Air Show Ruined by DE 36 Hours Before Start". This is just awful. If there was an issue, why did they leave it until now? Disgusting and our heartfelt support to Neil, Andy and everyone for their hardwork.

I cannot believe this decision and the timing it was made. Yes the runway and taxiways at Abingdon are not in the best of condition but they have not worsened this week, and I very much doubt they are much worse than they were last year. This decision seems to be typical of the MOD / DE, who do things like this because they can, and sod everyone else, one only has to look our badly many servicemen and women are treated.

Someone at the MOD has made a decision, followed the book and coudn't care less about the effect on anyone involved with, or going to the show. Sadly, and I really hope I'm wrong having been to what is a great little show, this could be the end of Abingdon as an Airshow venue, as the people involved in it's organization may decide all the the hassle is simply not worth it another year.

Wishing everyone involved with the show the best success, and I hope sunday goes as well as it can in what Defence Estates has made very difficult circumstances.

I don't know and can't understand the reasons for the late DE decision but it very obvious it has both destroyed and created a lot of work for those who have tried to make this work and I really hope the impact on charities is not significant. May be DE can make up any reductions!

I know the display community are trying to help by creating an even larger display despite the weather challenges.

i hope everyone supports the event and the charities who hope to benefit.

A despicable decision so late in the day. :wall:

It's doubly frustrating hearing the F-16 would have operated out of the airfield, and having the C-17 and Herc on static.

I am still planning on being there and I hope as many other people as possible support the show. Well done to Neil and the team for putting together a fine airshow, hampered only by bureaucratic idiots.

What an absolutley shocking decision bunch of :clown:

What about from next year asking to holding the Airfayre at Brize so that the DE will get bugger all out of it.

Could Kidlington, Oxford be a possible future venue for the show?

If you use Brize you still pay Defence Estates.

Good luck with tomorrow chaps, its a mindbogglingly stupid decision based on the pathetic risk averse culture brought to you by the Civil Service.

I think you'll find that Defence Estates are responsible for ALL (Army/Navy/Air Force) MoD land/property.

Even if the runway is not up to the DE's standards, which I'm sure it is, have they failed to realize that C17's and C130's are designed to operate from unprepared air strips!
As has been said earlier, they have done this because they can and because they have a need to show how powerful they are! I'll be there anyway and so will many other people, they may have the power to make stupid decisions but they don't have the power to prevent the rest of us from having a good time.
If they want power and respect, this is not the way to go about it!
DE = :loser:
And one final message to the DE, :butt: !

Just back from watching the practice displays. Pretty good (F16, Hawk, Tucano and JP4).

But a question - if DE won't allow any fixed wing movements how come the based Grobs are exempt?

Its all very well slagging of DE on here, but how can we be of practical assistance?

Oldtower, would you object to us writing to our MP's about this, would it help or hinder your cause?

Before going on the attack, would it not be better to find out what the reasons are for the ban? Ok, you still probably wont agree with them whatever the reason is, but it means you can put forward a logical argument, instead of petulant foot stamping.

I noticed yesterday on the BBMF Flying Programme Hangar board that the Lancaster was omitted from all displays and flypasts from 1st to 3rd May. It would appear that the Lancaster is still suffering technical issues. For the display at Abingdon it was marked up as just the Hurricane and Spitfire.

Well done to the organisers to overcome these difficulties!

But what an absolute load of rubbish from the DE! If the Grobs can fly out of there, why cant the other aircraft! Its a complete joke!

The F-16 was very good today! (I liked the simulated takeoff to start the show too!) IMHO, it was an improvement on last years show!

Did the Hawk have problems, as it seems he flew his first pass, then stopped, then flew it again?!

Cheers, BB
