Next round of Group Builds- Ideas?
Re: Next round of Group Builds- Ideas?
Think I best start looking at getting a Harrier in my stash
Re: Next round of Group Builds- Ideas?
It would be more beneficial if people post subjects that haven't already been posted. There's no point in several people stating Phantoms/ Harriers/Tiger Meet etc etc.... As this isn't a poll(or is it?) it's what you want to host as a GB obviously if more than one person comes out with the same idea, then it's only fair that whoever said first gets the first choice.
So far
Specific= scotthldr = Phantom
davidm = Harrier
General= scotthldr = Arab Air Power
richj = Tiger Meet
Flying medic = Trainers
Seamus = Foreign Service

In that case ill stick to my previous selection under a general heading... European Jets
With dumb bombs and retarded bomblets, why don't they just use stupid missiles?

Re: Next round of Group Builds- Ideas?
Ok got it now, just took it that it was a poll but seems better that everyone comes out with a different suggestion.
So going by that I'll change my specific choice to F-14 Tomcat

Re: Next round of Group Builds- Ideas?
I'll change my general one too. To Aircraft with nose art.

Re: Next round of Group Builds- Ideas?
Ok... suggestions-
I have had several thoughts on this- I have several ideas for more general themes- 8th AF, RAF, FAA, Bombers, and am loving the RIAT theme- have something already in mind for that...
I struggled to think of suitable specific theme- However, for my idea, I decided I'd think outside the box and not go with a specific aircraft, and go with a specific designer... Sydney Camm, especially as this year is the 85th anniversary of him becoming Chief Designer at Hawker... Think of all the possibilities- Harrier, Hart, Tomtit, Nimrod, Fury, Hurricane, Typhoon, Tempest, Hunter, Cygnet, Hornbill... the list goes on!

Re: Next round of Group Builds- Ideas?
Well guys we now have 4 months before the end of the current GB's.
I'm sure it is safe to say that there is enough interest to continue GB's within the Modelling Forum of UKAR and perhaps it's time to narrow the next lot down.
From the emails that have been sent in I would like to propose the following GB's which could run in tandem for 3 months.
Hawker Aircraft - mattlaker (Oct - Dec 2010)
Trainers - Flying Medic (Oct - Dec 2010)
Harriers - Seamus (Jan - Mar 2011)
Europen Jets - A40-BP (Jan - Mar 2011)
Experimental - IanF (Apr - June 2011)
Fleet Air Arm - Seamus/Deacon (Apr - June 2011)
F14 Tomcats - richj (July - Sep 2011)
Cold War Bombers - strangelookingalien (July - Sep 2011)
Phantoms - Deacon (July - Sep 2011)
Foreign Service - Seamus (Oct - Dec 2011)
Arab Air Power - Deacon (Jan - Mar 2012)
Mosquito - IanF (Jan - Mar 2012)
Nose Art - davidm (Apr - June 2012)
Tiger Meet - richj (Apr - June 2012)
I am not a 'leader of men' and I hope people don't mind the suggestion. Those members who recommended GB's have been classed as organisers, although I have stepped in where I know people who have 'initiated' a build can no longer do it, so that is why my name may appear a few times.
Matt, your 'Sydney Camm' GB suggestion has been changed to a Hawker GB as there aren't that many models available that he actually designed, but I have kept it within this year.
Also, I am sharing a GB with Seamus as he is down for organising a GB the previous 3 month period and I thought he wouldn't mind a helping hand seeing as he is making a few kits now for various magazines.
I leave it to proposers to make the rules for their particular GB's.
Cheers
Deacon

Re: Next round of Group Builds- Ideas?
Good going there Deacon. Like the line up there, no probs from me as you got me down for 2 GB's Least looking at this list there is a definite list of models to buy for the future so the missus can't complain about impulse buying for the stash.

Good job Alan, there's plenty of variety there to keep everyone interested
Happy to co-host the FAA GB with you, one of my favourite subjects
Looking forward to running the Harrier GB Given the amount of interest in one in this thread, I'm fully expecting a good turn out

Good work there, lots that I can get my teeth into there. And a good excuse to smuggle some kits in

Re: Next round of Group Builds- Ideas?
That's a good line up, Deacon, and certainly one I could go with. Many thanks to those who proposed the various ideas.
The sad thing is that if I look in my stash, I have something that will qualify for most of those GBs...

Hi alan
I like what you've done and I think the builds should bring some interesting kits to the forum. I look forward to them.

Re: Next round of Group Builds- Ideas?
Excellent, Alan.
Looking forward to hosting my first GB, I've got a few kits of my own ready for it. I also have kits that will fit into other GBs, so it looks like my modelling is palnned out for the next year or so!

Re: Next round of Group Builds- Ideas?
Hello again all I have to apologise for being away from here for so long but exams and what not, as well as a competition over on the model section of FC have kept me rather busy, if it is still alright to propose ideas I would go for a specific of WW1 aircraft and a general one of USAF. (and before anyone notices I don't mind my idea of experimental aircraft being used by IanF as a GB)

Re: Next round of Group Builds- Ideas?
Sorry Monty, I would have course have put you down as the organiser of the Experimental GB, but I just didn't see your post. It's my age!
Are you sure you are OK that Ianf can take 'control' of it? As the proposer, I am sure he is OK with you taking it on board? I have got plenty of GB's with my name on and, if he is happy to, he could take on one of those.
With regard to your suggestions mate, can I just bolt them onto the end of the list? I am aware that it may sound like I am 'dictating' who, and when the GB's are to be run. That is not what I intend and everyones input is necessary and essential.
Cheers

No no, it is completely fine, i haven't been a very regular visitor over the past couple of months so understand that other people should get the chance to run their ideas first.

Re: Next round of Group Builds- Ideas?
Hello all,
Looking at my stash, i should be able to put in something for all, if not 3 for all but 2 that dont fit my direction, ie Cold War Bombers and Mosquito so i will find more that one of the other build if i can!
So if these are to be set in stone, im off go sort out a UKAR GB box so i dont get tempted too much!!!
Arabest,
Geoff.

Re: Next round of Group Builds- Ideas?
OK gents.
Tomorrow sees the start of the last lot of the currently listed GB's, The Original Monty's 'Agressors' and Davidm's
'Bombers of WW2', .
Due to the support shown by members of the UKAR Modelling Forum , I'd like to anounce that the following is the definitive list of GB topics running from December 2010 to September 2012. (talk about planning for the future. )
There has been a slight change as we needed to include Monty's suggestions and I couldn't bolt these on to the end as he would end up running both in the same 3 months.
Hawker Aircraft - mattlaker (Oct - Dec 2010)
Trainers - Flying Medic (Oct - Dec 2010)
Harriers - Seamus (Jan - Mar 2011)
Europen Jets - A40-BP (Jan - Mar 2011)
Experimental - IanF (Apr - June 2011)
Fleet Air Arm - Seamus/Deacon (Apr - June 2011)
F14 Tomcats - richj (July - Sep 2011)
Cold War Bombers - strangelookingalien (July - Sep 2011)
Phantoms - Deacon (Oct - Dec 2011)
Foreign Service - Seamus (Oct - Dec 2011)
Mosquito - IanF (Jan - Mar 2012)
USAF - Monty (Jan - Mar 2012)
Nose Art - davidm (Apr - June 2012)
Tiger Meet - richj (Apr - June 2012)
WW1 - Monty (July - Sept 2012)
Arab Air Power - Scotthldr (July - Sept 2012)
This now gives you all reason/excuses and time to ensure you have the right kits for the GB's.
Cheers

Re: Next round of Group Builds- Ideas?
Thanks for the email Alan!
As you guys know, I've also been absent for a few months, so I'd completely forgotten about running the Agressor GB. I'm still up for it, unless someone else is really keen to take it over?
Not sure that I have any models to fit the theme though, might just have to "convert" one of my stashed kits!

Nice to have you back, Monty.
I have something I can enter for the Aggressor GB if it goes ahead, but at the moment would be unable to run it.
