Macc @ RIAT10 - (Final) Update 4 [Large post]

Post by Macc »

My third (or fourth, if you count 2008) RIAT. It was a superb 6 days which started with a bit of murky weather during arrivals but then brightened up in the end and a most enjoyable airshow took place!

It would be very hard to thank everyone who I saw individually, but you know who you's are and thank you very much as it was some top notch company!

The photos bear no chronological order as I'm just editing randomly the ones I like, so yeah, more will be added soon and will include the static photos.

Anyways, here we go..

1. I don't even know how to describe it, 'wow' is probably a good start.
Image

2. The critics will have me over the fact it's actually the Altus aircraft, but it's impossible to tell for those who don't know.
Image

3. Superb display by the Belgian, the colour scheme is growing on me.
Image

4.
Image

5. The Reds managed to get 9 up on the show days, somehow.
Image

6.
Image

7. Got a quick trip to the BAe hangar thanks to a friend on Thursday morning, very thankful for opportunity!
Image

8. Polish Su22, I'm getting mixed feedback regarding black and white, thoughts?
Image

9. Raptor holding.
Image

10. Nice to see some Mirage 2000B/Cs back in the UK again.
Image

11. By Thursday lunchtime, this was my epitome of RIAT.
Image

12. Late addition Italian MB339..
Image

13. Another Raptor shot, haha!
Image

That's it for the moment, now to get the rest edited..

Chris.

The first two Raptor shots are really nice. I have to say I like the black and white on the SU-22 shot, the conditions were pretty aweful so the black and white gives the shot more impact than it would have had in colour.

Superb! Lots of great stuff, but the flag shot was the one which really sticks in my head. Well conceived & shot.

Actually the F-16 shot underneath it is growing on me even more on a second viewing. Great trail and lovely contrast on the aircraft itself.

Lovely set of photos Chris - the Raptor and umbrellas is brilliant, as is the Raptor through the heathaze.

These are fantastic, Chris - I really like the sharpness of the first Raptor shot.
The crop of the Raptor tail/heat haze is great too.

Thanks for the comments guys, managed to get a few more done a wee while ago, a bit more experimental so I won't be surprised if people don't like them to be honest. I'll have some more normal ones in the next update.

14. There was a fire engine on the right where I cropped it, however, I really liked this when I cropped it so I stuck with it.
Image

15. These guys struggle to get my adrenaline up, but I liked this shot of them..
Image

16. An aircraft I'll be sad to see go, I've always had a bit of love for the Gator!
Image

17. All that expensive equipment and they use a compact camera..
Image

18. Always find these hard to get photos of, so I was very pleased with this!
Image

19. Bored of Raptors yet? Haha!

Some corkers here, Chris, particularly like the "Half a Raptor" shot and the Belgian F-16. Good to see you over the weekend, mate, enjoyed our wander 'round the static on Sunday.

Cheers,
Martin

This is not a full update, I'll do that later. I had the B&W photo of the (half of a) F22 head on, and put it on Twitter for opinions when Chris (ChrisGlobe) came back telling me to colour pop the canopy, so I did, and I love it!

Thoughts?

Good to see some real thought's gone in to this set - good work. Although I prefer the original half Raptor over the colour-popped one!

I think I do too, but either way, it's a very original idea for a photo and it works a treat. Big fan of that.

Disappointed no shots of the MC-130P through the split - S or 4 point roll.

I'll be honest, I don't like black and white, however there are some interesting images here that kept me looking, and I do like the A400M against the cloudscape, the sun did light up those storm clouds very impressively Friday evening and that shot alone sums up that day very well.

This last set is truly superb, Chris.

I think you deserve a big pat on the back for what you've posted here - comprehensive coverage, original ideas and compositions that are brilliantly executed, well edited and superbly presented. This is the best set of RIAT photos, not just from 2010, but I think possibly ever posted on UKAR. 10/10.

Wow. To be the recipient of such a comment feels absolutely amazing, I feel I've really excelled but didn't think it was that extreme! Thank you very much Dan! Thanks to everyone else for their comments as well, I'm editing more, but I won't bore you with more, I'll put them on my Flickr or save them for the Winter season!

Artsy static Mirage 2000 shots are stunning. Hard to go wrong with a deux-mille, but those are something special
