This parallel composition caught my eye in the sky...
And through the viewfinder my eye was obviously drawn to the aircraft's unusually lit trail...
And as the trail reached 'peak rainbowness' as it passed near the sun...
Obviously darkening the image brings out the spectral range, but it was obvious even to the naked eye... if you're stupid enough to squint towards the sun. This kind of thing probably happens all the time, but it's not something I've seen before.

Re: Planebow?
A search for "contrail rainbow" reveals some pretty impressive sights, including this rather striking clip...

I guess it always pays to keep an eye on the sky.

Re: Planebow?
Have seen them quite a bit here usually with the heavies on UR8 airway outbound to the USA in the transition between making a vapour trail and not... so at the lower levels of the trails.
Its just an irredescent vapour...
Clouds have the same effect quite often caused by ice crystals in the air.

Just a 40D & 100-400L. Nothing special (around here anyway! )
While I'm at it, apologies to the mods for parking this in the wrong section originally. My reasoning was that it wasn't a post about the aircraft, it was about the vapour trail... and that's a kind of cloud, and clouds are definitely general photography.
Rumours that I have a habit of over-thinking the most trivial of matters are, er... well, completely true.
