Luchtmachtdagen 2011@ Leeuwarden AB

Post by Nielis »

Hi All,

I know it is very early to start this topic but I want to let you all know that there are some strong rumours here in the Netherlands that the Thunderbirds are coming to Leeuwarden. Combined with the fact that the commentators said that they tried to get them this year at Gilze Rijen but that the thunderbirds were unable to come, that now the Dutch Air Force were trying to get them to leeuwarden.

I also heard at this years Sanicole airshow in Belgium that they also were trying to get them in 2011.

This is possible because The Airforce days at leeuwarden are the 16th and 17th of September and Sanicole is the 18th of September

There are also rumours that they would come to Koksijde Airshow and Zeltweg, but these shows are at the end of june and the beginning of july... Don't think they will stay in Europe for 2-3 months. I guess we will just have to wait and see.

The US jet teams usually release their schedules in early December for the next year or two.

Up till now the website of the show only mentions participation by the Dutch F-16 demo (anyone surprised to see them at Leeuwarden?)

On the other hand, the following items have put this show at their own site:

Team Viper
The Blades
RAF solo Hawk
Black Cats
Patrulla Aguilla
Belgian participation will be F-16 (flying and static), Alpha Jet (static), Sea King (flying and static) Agusta A-109 and Marchetti SF 260
A weather forecast is a forecast and just that

Looks like another excellent Open Dagen line-up. Always a great event.

Not going to make it to Leeu this year, quite gutted as it's one of my favourite European airshow destinations. Stupidly I've arranged to go to the Oktoberfest that same weekend; I suppose if there's a good reason to miss an airshow, that might be it!

Guess you don't completely understand what is said in Dutch at the show's website: KDC-10 will be flying in the Airpower demo, the static machine will be the never to enter service DC-10 (T-255), which is not capable of AAR.

As a first time visitor, can someone answer these questions:

What time do they usually open the gates (on Friday)? Where do I buy the tickets? I went through their website but couldn't find anything. Thanks.

For tickets, you're in luck: it's a free airshow, no tickets needed.
Only thing to remember is to get a parking coin on base if you go by car. You have to hand that in to the guards when you leave the parking at the end of the day. You can get those at any information stand on the base.
