Thunderbirds at Waddington

That got you looking - having read on another thread that the Thunderbirds are doing a European tour next June, July I thought I'd take the chance to start the speculation.

It should be remembered that in 2007 the Thunderbirds visited Ireland, England (RIAT), France, and Poland IIRC.

I would guess they would visit other countries this time, my guess is a Scandinavian one, Germany, Italy and Austria.

Germany in June is normally the ILA airshow, so quite likely IMHO.

Although the UK or Ireland will be a likely transit stop.

I imagine they'll try and get at least one UK venue in, under normal circumstances that is. However, the current administration in the White House, being more inclined to treat the UK as just another country, may intervene in the team's display calendar in order to ensure we get scrubbed round? But who knows?!

greetz, Eric
So for Waddington given its clashing with Zeltweg, you can bin it, I think. Also as RIAT is stated to be the final appearance during this tour.

About ILA in Germany, I don't think the Thunderbirds are an option, as the Germans are still sensitive about displayteams (remember Ramstein). Patrouille Suisse is only allowed because they are willing to adjust their display to the ILA regulations. Can't see that happen to the Thunderbirds. Edit: Another reason for the Thunderbirds not taking in ILA in their next year's European tour might be that ILA will only take place in even years, I just remembered.

Will they be at Legends? :heyhey:

On a serious note, would love to see them at Waddington again, but I'm not holding my breath...

Or as part of a Flypast with the Red Arrows to celebrate a certain Royal Event which has just been announced This Morning............

Is there an Airshow at Perth Next Year and is it around that time? East Fortune as well maybe?

From what I have heard, the Thunderbirds would end their European tour at RIAT so I gues that would be their only UK display in 2011

Don't rule out the National Air Days in Slovakia, Meeting National de l'air at St. Dizier, AirPower 11 or Koksijde either! Let's be logical, IF the Thunderbirds are coming, they're coming for a EUROPEAN tour, not a UK tour. I would say the chances of Waddo securing the T-Birds are slim. However, this is not a dig at Waddo. Coup they might be, the Thunderbirds aren't to everyones taste, so why doesn't Waddo attract another display team exclusive to them, like the Turkish Stars at this years Waddo. Team Iskry? Hardship Red? Marche Verte? Los Halcones?

Waddinton could be there first appearance in Europe, then head over the Channel before ending there tour at RIAT, that one peace of informations i've seen around the Internet but not official, the second information i've seen is that they would only want to show in the UK once being RIAT.

All i can say is, lets hope!

Can't understand why there is this desperation and wild speculation that the Thunderbirds are wanted to display at every uk show... Let them just display at RIAT only if it's their Uk schedule and let Waddington attract and fill the display with items exclusive to them for the season, if possible...
Last year for example I enjoyed the fact that the Turkish Stars only appeared at Waddo...

It's not as if it's too late in the year to organise time off to go to both shows, which I assume most people will do anyway...

That, if I may say so, is a very wild assumption to make  I probably will be at Waddington, I definitely won't be at RIAT (barring some sort of financial miracle).

  I was trying to be rational and realistic! Better than saying the likes of the Canadian Snowbirds, the Russian Knights or the Roulettes team!

Actually, I was very close to mentioning Team Aguila as well, but I'd bet money they'll be at RIAT so it won't be a Waddo exclusive.

Well I like the idea of The Thunderbirds at RIAT
But I also like the idea of a Mosquito at Legends,
which is best?

That's easy! Mosquito any day of the week.

I'd personally rather have Turkish stars and Patrouille Suisse than the Thunderbirds, reasons being-
The Yank's show lasts just shy of 3/4 Hour all told with that god awful commentary all the way,
F-16's really are 10 a penny on the airshow circuit,
The yanks don't exactly bring "Interesting" support aircraft.
Operationally the TB are a pain in the backside.

So please don't book the Thunderbirds for Waddo let RIAT have the headache.

On the other hand...

The T-birds air-to-air chatter is wonderful,
Brightly-painted F16s in formation are not exactly common,
On their most recent Waddington appearance, they were accompanied by 2 x C141s (last time I saw Starlifters at a UK airshow),
And some of us don't get to go to RIAT

[also, they're a headache AND a pain in the backside? That sounds serious  ]
