This is probably going to sound like a question supposed to be burbled from a thick person's mouth, but here goes. Why, in every photo I've seen of the 48th's Eagles, do they carry a AIM 120 and Sidewinder. I have even seen them carry them during air displays. So, why do they carry air to air weapons when they aren't required at the present time, is it a precaution?, or so they are ready for the worst case scenario?, look nice?

Beautiful shots by the way, I've always loved the compact and purposeful look of the F15 and you've captured them perfectly

Cheers

Certainly not a precaution, because they're training rounds (blue band on them).

They use the heat-seeker heads on the Sidewinders during training missions, to get a 'tone' when acquiring the target aircraft. Not sure if the same is true for the AIM-120s as they use a radar seeker tied into the Eagle's radar, but I would imagine that is the only reason why they would hang them on the pylons.
