Reds Over Scampton
I was very lucky to have the opportunity to join the Reds for their last in-season practice of 2010 over RAF Scampton.
Comments and advice always welcome,
Leon
1. That's Mike Ling in the back of the second jet. This was his first flight with the team since ejecting in Crete.
2.
3. Does this one look like a model?
4. Scampton
5. Grey sky over Lincolnshire

Lovely work, Leon. Number 3 is a bit special with such a low shutter speed (1/40th).

No chance of red smoke, just the occasional brown mist!

Luck had nothing to do with it.
Well done Leon, you fully deserve that flight for the entertainment you have given us over the past couple of years. Nice shots as well.

Hi Leon,
I hope you didn't think I was criticizing your image. Having attempted to photograph inside an aircraft at that angle I know how uncomfortable it is which was what my post was about. I know I had to go for the sick bag! Congrats on getting a POTW place...
Re: Reds Over Scampton
beautiful photos I love flying, not upside down yet , but shot 3 does make you feel rather wobbly and I love it!

Rick,
Even though yours wasn't, there is nothing wrong with a little criticism! As a relative photography novice, I'm always open to comments and advice. Jorgo suggested by pm that I might consider shooting 'to the horizon' rather than presenting the pilot's perspective, which seems more natural to me. So I thought I'd give it a try by re-cropping that picture to a level horizon; I like the result. That's given me something else to think about next time.
I wonder which do you prefer? One shows it as I saw it, the other looks, to my eyes, more dynamic.
That pic was taken at about 3g, so my D300 and (relatively small) 18-70mm lens had an effective weight of 4.5 kg or 10 lb!

Leon,
I'll happily loan you my 1D sometime, with 24-105. I dunno what it weighs, but my personal photo taking limit is around 5G. And then to hold it at 8+ requires serious grunting
