Edwards AFB Open House 2009. Lots of pics
Hi all,
Now winter has rolled in I finally made some time to seek in some dusty corners of my Power Mac's HD's. First subject I've found is the 2009 Edwards AFB open house that I was able to visit. It was a fantastic venue, lot of variety and rarely seen aircraft and...it just breaths history out there!
An impression. Action shots were made on the "other" side of the runway. This was made possible by the public affairs office and was not only open to the press. Great place, close to the runway action. Demo's were a bit far away from us but didn't bother us.
Enjoy!
Cheers,
Frank

Great stuff
I went many many years back and was not allowed to see the only A10B (not on the Airside of the base), but I did see the YF-23 which was missing from your photo's. When I saw it was just left on the ramp along by the NASA B52 and was looking sorry for itself, anyone know where it is now?

Cheers all. The YF-23 sits in the Write Patterson Air Force museum (public) storage.

Excellent set! Like the B52/B2 pairing!
Re: Edwards AFB Open House 2009. Lots of pics
Great post from a place like no other, where else would you see the B52 and B2 in formation like that.
Those deep blue desert skies are something else too.
I have just finished a page on my site from the 1999 Edwards Open House, very intereseting to see that alot of the subjects you have shot are still around even if not flying anymore, most notable for me is the SR71 just sitting there as a museum piece.... We saw her fly for the last time ever at that show.
Thanks for sharing these, brings back some great memories. A place that every enthusiast should visit at sometime.

Great shots, what lens were you using as usually Edwards flying is a struggle to get that close.
The Nasa planes are well appointed and nice to see the SR71 without a fence around.
The win seat A10 and F111 I have always missed unfortunately.

Some very nice photos there. Presumably most of the flying shots were taken on the Friday media day from the far side of the runway?

Cheers all! All shots were taken during both days. I have been to the "other side" on both days as well. It seems that it wasn't open to media only. Runway shots were taken with my 70-200, 2,8 and 400mm 2,8 on a full frame 1DS mkIII.

The YF-23 is with The YF-17 in a museum, near the C-17 plant, cant think of the name for the life of me though.

The museum is the Western Museum of Flight at Hawthorne, but the YF-23 from there was 'repossessed' a number of years ago, fuelling much speculation that a version has been developed for production as a 'black project'
