Tremblers v Canopeners

Post by Marky Mc »

Spent a very enjoyable day at Leuchars today under gin clear skies and in fine company. Happy to see five "Tremblers" F3s airborne, including a pair of QRA jets. The "Canopeners" also continue their work-up.

6 Sqn enjoying some free product placement...

Absolutely stunning mate, so sharp. Hard to pick a favourite, but the last shot with the undercarriage lights reflecting off the water has to be up there.

Glorious mate, absolutely glorious! The shot of 'HP' with the burnished sunlight reflecting off the aicraft (fifth from the end) is especially stunning.

When is the next time you will be heading over to the beach?
Would like to tag along, if you don't mind the company.

Hi Mark, superb day if not a little chilly
Nice to have met you and Berry. I see you've got me (second last photo - left hand corner below F3) heading away in the near darkness with my bike  Michael.

Absolutely gorgeous shots, Mark.

It's an inter-squadron game of one-upmanship called "Zapping", where members of one squadron or air force look to put their squadron stickers on other squadrons' aircraft undetected. It's very much commonplace at airshows and exercises, or at least has been in the past.

Cheers,
Martin

Cheers Martin, they should have put a bumper sticker on it then saying 'my other planes a typhoon'

These are stunning Mark, love the 2 QRA F.3's, especially "FD", and the smoky F.3 on finals are the best in my opinion.

So want to get across to Leuchars in Feb before the F.3's stop flying, are they still going up fairly regularly?

Looking forward to your new book as well.

Eng

Great photo's, I'll be sad to see them go and to leave leuchars for pastures new (Benson). We don't mind 6's amateurish attempts at zapping, so we leave them on to make them feel better, in fact one of our jets still has an old "I'd rather be a phoenix than a c**k" zap on it.

Thanks Eng. From what I can gather, the F3s are active most week days - some busier than others. We were lucky and caught Q1 and Q2 launching which boosted the numbers.
