Hi all !!!
I made my annual glacier flight last friday and performed about ten landings ; if I continue like this, I will get my glacier license in about 20 years
This time I convided Mr Georges Burlet who was a former military pilot in Switzerland and had landed on a glacier for the last time 35 years ago. Born in 1914, he was an infantry lieutenant when he asked in 1939 to join the aviation corps. He then learned to fly the Bücker and the Fokker CV, Morane 406, C-3603 and Me-109 during WWII. After the war he flew the P-51 Mustang, DH-100 Vampire and DH-112 Venom. About the Messerschmitt 109E-3 and the P-51D he said : the Mustang was a great plane with a very reliable engine but the Messerschmitt was lighter, had very good aerodynamic characteristics and the cockpit was so small that is like you were one with the plane.

Re: Glacier Flight
Very unusual and the story to go with the pics makes it all the more interesting!

Yes Major Burlet was very happy to be on the glacier after such a long time, he showed me some pages of his log book, he said "landing on that same glacier with an military Super Cup in August 1959, something broke on one ski and I had to make a repair with the harness to fix the ski again"
Cheers

Re: Glacier Flight
My homage to Major Georges Burlet who died on September 26, just one month before his 97th birthday. May you fly to peaceful heaven !
