Brilliant photo's, interesting to see the different size engine intakes, 419 with large diameter (believe for high altitude use originally) & 638 with small diameter (low level use ?), or maybe vice versa, there must be a Meteor expert out there who can tell, I worked opposite the airfield at Chalgrove & saw these two aircraft on a regular basis including watching the seat trials with regular pilots, Stan Hodgkins & Bob Thompson, quite spectacular. Paul H, Bicester.

Great subject - great photo set Tom. The shots looking at their landing from astern are really impressive - far better than the actual lighting in reality I suspect - a nice local trip for you this weekend.

70 Years since the invention of the Jet Engine 15th – 22nd May 2011.
• In celebration of the first successful flight of the jet engine, two jets from Classic Flight (Gloster Meteor NF.11 and Hunting Percival Jet Provost T.3A) will fly past the memorial of Air Commodore Sir Frank Whittle
The Gloster Meteor is one of the oldest flying jet aircraft still using jet engines derived directly from Air Commodore Sir Frank Whittle’s amazing achievements that transformed the world. Our Aircraft will fly past the memorial in his home town Lutterworth, in memory of this monumental moment in human history at approximately 14.00 Sunday 22nd May2011
This will make fantastic viewing / listening and will take place at the junction between the A426 and A4303 just of junction 20 on the M1. Date and time
Sunday 22 May at 2.00pm.
