Bike ride protest at Fairford airshow

I possibly agree with him about the DU but I really don't give a gnats arse where my ticket money goes as far as I am concered it goes towards my 13 hours of entertainment and they could set fire to it for all I care.

What he has got to remember if we didn't have aircraft polluting our skies in the 40's we would all be talking German, well the white Christians amongst us would be.

(No offence meant to any German UKAR members)

I feel you are all possibly missing something here,if the half dozen cyclist's were requested to deflate their tyre's by 60%,the sound of rubber on tarmac would be very much like that of the much applauded 'Blue note' I know this through experience!

PS
I remember alighting from a coach at Greenham Common at the 1983 IAT,several ladies were handing out leaflets about the missiles being on the base ,I took one (because the lady was quite tasty as it happens)but seriously....I did take a leaflet with a smile ...
They mostly believed in what they were doing,I kind of admired them for that

Must remember to sprinkle a few boxes of tin tacks on the road then! Some of the comments people have put have had me in stitches e.g. let them get back to their nettle and horseradish soup! I don't really think 13 people are going to affect the traffic going in and out that much.

I heard the organiser of the ride has recently come out of an asylum, apparently he's a deranged cyclepath

Yes, after being hospitalised early this year from being knocked off my bike by a car (the driver of the car was prosecuted for dangerous driving), then the kind of idiotic comment made by 2e1var deserves to be responded to at the same low-level as his/her post.

You're asking him to meet you, so you can discuss the matter? What's the problem? Just let it go.

I wonder how many millions of men and women have died in the last 100 years or so in order to ensure he is able to express his opinions without fear of persecution?

I say we let them carry out their protest. I may not agree with them (I actually think they're talking a load of crap) but I will always defend their right to do so.

So much has been sacrificed to ensure they have that freedom of expression, the best way we can show our appreciation for that sacrifice is to ensure that that freedom is upheld.

If this happens & they try a peaceful & "legal" protest , then I've got no problem with that , it's the actions of our brave Armed Forces that gives them the oportunity to carry out these actions I hope they do realise that , however , I only hope that their cycles are "legal" in as much as they all carry a bell (other warning devices are available) & they all carry lights , both items I believe are legal requirements to operate a pedal cycle on a public highway .
Cheers , see you all at RIAT :music:

I'd think that will be highly unlikely, at least as far as some of them will be concerned. And while we are on the subject, when are most cyclists other misdemeanours going to be taken seriously such as riding on the pavement, jumping red lights and riding the wrong way down one-way streets etc?

I remember another protest at RIAT in 2003 (I think) against the war in Iraq. It was a peaceful protest AFAIK but their choice of location probably wasn't the wisest, outside Kempsford camp site. The only, real, arguement I had against them being there was that they had set themselves up outside a crash gate!!! As long as these disillusioned souls don't cause any similar issues then, they can knock themselves out as far as I care.

Both of these sentiments do for me. It's a free country and who cares anyway? I'd might even agree with some of the things they say but targeting RIAT makes no sense and it seems like they picked it just because they think it will get them the most publicity. Seriously though, how much impact are they going to have on something with the level of security and management that RIAT has? At most it'll be something some of us might get some extra vaguely amusing photos from.

we have also to remember that there is 4 different routes into the show so if they are going to protest on all 4 then that makes about 4 people per route lol

I passed through blue gate on Saturday lunchtime, they were handing everyone leaflets. Once on base I was first greeted by a helpful member of the security team who with his full black plastic bag was only too happy to relieve me of my potential fod. Sums up the public interest in these protests.
