Actually, that'll be 1/4, as Germany, Italy and Spain will all claim it as part-'theirs' too!

And what about the Hunter and SHar?

A few of those aren't even in service yet..... hardly fighters of the world. Its like going back to the sixties and having a poster of bombers of the world and sticking a TSR2 on it lol.

Dear Marc,

If we had called the poster 'In Service Fighters of the World' you would be correct to say that some of the fighters shouldn't be on the poster, but the title was chosen to encompass what was felt would make for the most interesting poster. There is a lot of interest in new fighters and so the decision was taken to include new designs even if they hadn't entered service (but they had to have flown), as for example we did the aircraft to scale so it was interesting to see how a J-20 compares in size to other fighters. Afterall, its unlikely you'll see it parked next to Western fighters for comparison any time soon. If we had just done fighters in service when we produced the poster we wouldn't have been able to include the F-35. Like all these things there are many ways to do this type of project which would all have merit in their own way such as just doing those fighters in service as you suggest, but I took the decision to include the new fighters as I felt it would make for a more interesting poster.

Thanks for your input and I hope the above gives some insight behind what was included on the poster.

Kind regards

That's fair enough and now looking at it from that point of view it makes sense. I wasn't in any way trying to put a negative vibe on it as that's not my style. Sorry if it came across that way and thank you for explaining it the way you have. Now looking back and reading what I wrote I really should of thought about it before writing.

I really don't need a poster in order to buy the mag. My walls are already full of this stuff! I'm afraid the inclusion of these plus far too much advertising has made me cancel my subscription after more than 50 years of receiving Air Pictorial/Aviation News. Would prefer more content and less 'freebees' and advertising.

But that's the problem, isn't it. Many magazines cannot survive on sales alone so they need the advertising to keep the cover price realistic. Less advertising and up goes the cover price or the mag disappears and we have lost something that perhaps we enjoyed reading.

Dear Adrian,

I am sorry to hear you have cancelled your subscription. As far as advertising if we felt there wasn't sufficient room for editorial content we would increase the size of the magazine. The November issue not includng the covers (which wouldn't have content anyway) had 15 pages of adverts out of a 84 page magazine, so I personally don't feel that is too bad a ratio. In terms of freebies such as posters they are in addition to the magazine so the size of the magazine stays the same. As much as I love the subject at the end of the day decisions have to be taken on a commercial basis and adding some extra pages for an issue doesn't sell more copies whereas posters generally do. The feedback I have had to the posters has been very positive, but of course they may not be to everyones taste.

Thank you for your feedback and I hope the above goes some way to explaining the thinking behind doing such projects.

Kind regards
