Rather than being at 10 feet or less and threatening to wipe out 100s of spotters rather than a field or 2 of crops...

Come on MM, give up on this, you quite clearly said you "watched pretty much all of it" yet now say the pesky fence was in the way. Can't have it both ways, otherwise the members on here who not only saw the actions of, but also spoke to the coppers in question are total liars.....

Seems a real shame that my local airfield seems to cause this much fuss
For 363 Days of the Year you can enter said field and watch the Aircraft no problem.

So far this Year Black cats and team viper and Vixen have practiced displays plus more?

Airshow Week is a diferent story

Last year wasn't the end of the world now was it??
I set up my little base camp on the edge of the stream about 10.30 and stayed there until about 5.30 with no fuss or problems at all. I have my caravan booked into the official site again...over on the sports field...so a short bike ride is all thats involved for me :)..........better than a day in work thats for sure!

Received this official statement from Yeovilton today so I thought you guys would like to know.

"Further to discussions during the planning stages and reinforced at today's Table Top Exercise I can confirm that arrangements will be similar to last year. Safety concerns of those potentially standing by the fence and the flying participants were once again raised. This year the bridleway, which runs through private land, will be clearly marked, cordoned off and marshalled on Friday and Saturday. Any deviation from the bridleway could jeopardise the flying display and that is the last thing any of us wants, especially the Air Station, Organisers and the 30,000 or so visitors. In pursuit of your hobby we ask all enthusiasts to take this into consideration. A lot of effort has gone into producing this line-up and we want everyone to enjoy it sensibly. Now, let's hope for some fine weather to go with it!"

Cheers

Thanks for update - can someone with knowledge of the area spell out what this means for "using the field area" - my thoughts are that this might mean that we have a tiny strip of pathway to use. Also can they "move you on" on a bridleway rather like a footpath obstruction. Any thoughts welcome

Basically it means that we will have to stay in the field further back from the fence, the other side of the stream as like last year.

Can't see a problem with that personally-seemed to work ok last year-and you're not facing the sun?

As a first time visitor to the field on Friday can anyone explain to me what the parking situation will be?

Are any of the car parks going to be open and available to use or do we have to park up somewhere in the area and take a walk?

Thanks in advance,

Frank.

I think the response to that Frank will be probably, and we will probably only know Friday morning.

The answer I was expecting but was hoping would be something else!

Can anyone recommend a location where legal parking is possible then or is it a case of turn up early and grab what you can, parking wise?

Usually, but not officially the Navy open up part of the Hunter car park because they know arrivals will attract attention.

Have to admit, the field situation has put me off the show entirely!

Not sure about official car parks........I would imagine there is going to be something made available for the photo call ?
The lane to the field will be shut off though, you can bet on that. A lot of people drive past the lane and park on the verges of other roads and walk back to the field.
Possibly park in the museum car park??.......bit of a trek around though.

Does the museum even open on Arrivals day? (and it's not much of a trek really....15 minutes at most :P)

Travel light.....I have to walk from Ilchester and have done so with a heavy camera bag and in the rain....don't bother with a fold up chair (though carrying steps from Fairford village to Rhymes farm is a bit of a hassle :P)

The museum car park is used for security checks and as an entrance for traders on Friday and Saturday as well as a public entrance to the airfield on Saturday, however all museum visitors on Friday will park on the grass opposite the museum, to the left of the road to Little Yeovilton.

Me too! I am weighing up the pluses and minuses:

1) Do I want to have to walk miles from my car in possibly pouring rain to a field that will be policed and give us a lot of hassle....no!

2) Do I want to be kept moving up and down a Bridle Way (cos that is the rules) when I would rather be stationary alongside the frustratingly close fence - no!

3) Is there anything coming that I haven't seen before and am willing to put up with all this hassle and possibly bad weather to see and photograph - no!

I think that just about sums it up! Thank you Yeovilton!

I think some of you guys are fearing the worst!!!
The field is NOT out of bounds per say.......it is restricted yes,but not out of bounds. Last year it was fine to set up your camp on the edge of the river or up against the edge of the bridleway. I personaly only saw people moved away from the lighting areas,I.E,directly under the flight path prior to the 27 threshold. There was a few hundred people around that day and I would fully expect the same tomorrow.

I will give you the weather factor though!....not the best, but it is improving after today.......showers possible on Friday, better on Saturday and nice on Sunday (if anyone is going to watch the departures of course)

Hi all .I popped down to the field on Tuesday and walked over to the fence ,Just a bit warning that there's alot of mushy sheep poo in the fields ,more in the gate side one ,so if taking kids make then were wellies and not flip-flops.lol ..
Am i right in thinking the bridleway is the mowed strip that goes to the bridge ,if so where does it go after the bridge ?..thx jon

The bridleway forks at the bridge - straight on to Speckington Lane (through the approach lights...) but also left along the riverbank (south side) to the next field, then in towards the perimeter fence again and follows it from pretty much then on to the River Yeo (with buildings obscuring the airfield most of the way).
