Might be a wise move but it's driven a coach and horses through my plans. I can just about get one weekend off in July and I had a cracking weekend lined up. Friday and Saturday at Legends then over to Fairford for Sunday and Monday.
Never mind, I'll have to skip Leg Ends for a year. But it might have to be a Mach3 at RIAT 2012 to make up for it

RIAT is the weekend before Legends. The clash is with the Farnborough Public Days not Fairford!

Legends was going to be the same weekend as RIAT, hence the new date being of much relief. :yahoo: A clash with SBAC is barely an issue, and of the two I think the latter will be the loser for most people.

At least you can 'do' Farnborough during the trade days (and enjoy a better display lineup probably...).

TFC Blog: "Due to the protracted discussions being held with the Civil Aviation Authority regarding Olympic Airspace Restrictions please note that we are unable at this time to confirm the 2012 Flying Legends date. We will provide updated information on progress for you on a weekly basis.

We would appreciate that you do not call The Fighter Collection about the 2012 dates!

We will update information for you as soon as we can through our usual internet sites.

We thank you for your understanding on this."

that seems a bit ridiculous if you ask me.

I completely understand the need for security and all that but the games dont start untill July 27th and Finishes: August 12th so why restrict the air space so early. isn't DX located around Stansted air space ?

My other passion is boating my sister owns a Dunkirk Little Ship and the Thames passes much closer the the games main sites than DX and the river isn't being shut down there are restrictions as below
(for the period of the Olympic and Paralympic Games recreational vessels with accommodation will only be allowed access to the river through central London (between Putney and Gravesend) if they can provide evidence they have an existing or booked mooring in that area or are intending to transit the tidal river without stopping.
vessels wishing to transit the river through London (between Putney and Gravesend) will be allowed passage only if they can prove they have a mooring above Richmond Lock (if inbound) or an intended destination below Gravesend (if outbound).
vessels heading to their ‘home’ mooring on the river between Putney and Gravesend will similarly be asked for evidence of the home mooring (and that the vessel is actually going to it)
Vessels in transit between Gravesend and Putney will be monitored by our Vessel Traffic Services centres and river patrols throughout their journey
)

Is this just the CAA being over zelious again. i guess there are four options open to the TFC 1 - have the show mid June, 2 Have the show late August, 3 convince the CAA its safe, 4 cancel (not an option)

Just read in my November issue of Aeroplane that the DfT have relaxed some of their Olympic air space restrictions doers this mean we could see dates for next years Legends show posted soon. Presumably and its only my assumptions it will be the first weekend in July 7th / 8th as the article says that air space restrictions will be in place from July 14th to August 15th

Unfortunately im sure it will clash with something ? Whatever it clashes with ile be doing Legends whenever it is. The main reason i guess is that i enjoy the atmosphere and personally find it relaxing although a long day, and i get to take 2 veterans who always make it interesting and sometimes a little emotional. The lady recounted a few years ago when the FW190 flew that she could remember them shooting up the American troops who were stationed at Orford as well as the street she lived in killing one of her friends.

The only thing i would criticise and its only personal is the lack of heavy's now attending i guess i like the heavy's seeing 2 or 3 B17 on the ground 2 or 3 B25 and the invader in 2007 was bliss :yahoo: however this is probably unlikely as most have been sold abroad, crashed or grounded

The TFC still haven't confirmed any dates but if its gona be in July ? the only date it can be is the first weekend.

Scramble also have it listed as the 14th-15th of July, so would clash with Farnborough. Although that's no biggie!

That's probably wishful thinking as TFC themselves don't know!!

Is it just me or are these Olympic restrictions overblown and unnecessary?
