A tragic and sad day for the Reds. Was chatting to them all last weekend whilst based at Manston for Eastbourne.

RIP Red 4.

I had the pleasure of seeing them arrive, depart, display and arrive again at Bournemouth yesterday. Impressive to the last moment! I hope the report is published in full soon, so that all the haters out there can leave the family in peace. RIP, never fogotten.

Terrible news. I saw the breaking news headline flash up on Sky when they reported "crash at Bournemouth Airshow", then it quickly changed to "Red Arrows crash" and then "pilots fate unknown". I was really hoping for the best possible outcome for the pilot so I am very sad to hear he did not make it. Thoughts to his wife, family and friends. Rest in Peace

There's some nice tributes on the British Forces News website:

We will no doubt have a chat among ourselves and decide how best to fittingly mark today's sad events.

Well done everyone for keeping such a respectful and measured tone in here, you have done UKAR and indeed RAFAT, proud with your conduct.

As the Chairman of the Friends of The Red Arrows I first met Jon after he joined the Team last autumn at RAF Scampton and soon ended up talking about his favorite aircraft - The Harrier GR9.

His easy going manner made him a person that helped you become friends and I was looking forward to seeing him at the end of the season when I would be taking a group of members to visit the Team.

Rest in peace my friend.

May you find a guiding star to steer by and a trailing wind to help you fly onto dawn.

What a testament to the airmanship of the Red Arrows that we never think this kind of thing possible with 'our Reds'. To us, as enthusiasts or Joe Public, they just always seemed invincible. I always thought things like this don't - just can't happen - to the Reds. I am so sad tonight, and hope all those affected find some comfort in the words of anyone across the globe who ever gasped or cheered at one of those immaculate, perfect displays.

Very true, i could not believe it when i heard about what happened, seeing them over and over again at several different air shows you do think to yourself that these guys, and girl are immune to accidents. Such a shame on the odd occasion when the Reds to do have accident
