MAKS 2011 - Жуковский
MAKS 2011 - Жуковский
I skipped RIAT this year, to go to Russia for MAKS, and what a show it was. Attended MAKS on the Thursday in perfect weather, Friday was spend at the Monino aviation museum and then back to MAKS on the Saturday in really bad weather - you can't always win
Unfortunately I missed the SU-34 display on the Thursday, as I thought the flying was from 14 to 17 (as it was stated on their website), but it was actually from 10 to 18, so I was going around static when come out of no where(didn't take off at Zhukovsky, but was coming from Kubinka), and started displaying.
It was a mix of both airliners, fast jets and choppers:
Hope you like them, and feedback are more than welcome - thanks,
Søren

Stunners all of them!
Really like the T-50 shots, the Mi-26 with the Mi-28 behind and the A-380 closeup.

Take whatever you paid to go to that, double it and it would still have been worth it. Breathtaking stuff.

You told me because you had enjoyed RIAT and Rougham so much..
Great shots - presumably far side on an organised tour??? Bizarre that the Russian knights have got false canopies painted underneath them Loved their 4 ship formation high alpha..
You caaan't trust the system... Maaan!

The Russian Knights and the Swifts are reported to have disbanded. I would guess that if these are former Russian Knights aircraft, they are being returned to a normal combat role, which might include painting false canopies underneath ( a-la-A10)

Thats what I thought but the 4 ship display was a very accomplished aerobatic routine with mucho flares, cobras and tail slides as well as the very nice box 4 high alpha...

They aren't Russian Knights - they are a four-ship display team from the 4th Krasnoznamionnyi ordena Lenina Tsentr Boyevogo Primeneniya i Pereuchivaniya Lyotnogo Sostave imeni V.P Chkalova ( in English - the 4th Centre for Combat Application and Training of Aircrew awarded with Red Banner and Lenin Order and named after V.P. Chkalov) - the abbreviation of 4th TsBPiPLS is a bit less of a mouthful!.
They are based at Lipetsk and teach combat maneouvres so the routine reflects that.
Here they are at Lipetsk in 2005......
The Russian Knights and Swifts were also at MAKS.

Nothing comes close to Mark Miller's Rapide at Rougham!
Terrific set!

The Mustang won't do what a Spitfire does, but it does it over Berlin.

Interesting, thanks - but they're definitely ex 'Knights birds though surely?

Re: MAKS 2011 - Жуковский
Thanks for all the comments, I really appreciates them.
I was with an arranged tour, but getting to the other side of the runway wasn't part of the tour though.
The 4-ship are the Russian Falcons, unfortunately the Russian Knights and Swift didn't perform on the Thursday, but they displayed on the Saturday, in cloudy and rainy weather though. I have some pictures of them, but very dark, dull and grey
I have also heard the rumors about the Russian Knights and Swift, and it was one of the reasons I went to MAKS. But as far as I'm aware, it's not going to happen: http://english.ruvr.ru/2011/06/10/51555453.html
Just a couple more pictures from the show:
And as said, some pictures of the Russian Knights:
Thanks,
Søren

Nope, they are brand-new Flankers.
In fact two of the four-ship are actually new, upgraded Su-27SM's.
The clues are on the leading edge of the slats - small dimples about halfway along - a new RWR antenna.
The other clue is on the underside of the horizontal stabs - the Su-27SM's have strengthening plates at the tips, towards the rear.
This Su-27SM from Lipetsk was in the static at MAKS 2009..... note also the offset IRST in front of the windscreen on the SM
