Leuchars Airshow 2011

Post by Marky Mc »

Not a lot to shout about at our home airshow, but it was an enjoyable weekend despite the lack of aircraft. It was the banter that kept me going, as I suspect it did do for others. Anyway, here's a few of my shots, in no particular order, from the Friday arrivals, show day and Sunday departures.

The highlight for me was the Norwegian Falcon 20ECM from 717 Skvadron at Rygge, seen here about to depart on Sunday morning :

It's been a while since the Patrouille de France took part in a Leuchars Airshow :

And I thought the RAF Tornado GR4s looked scabby! The Patrouille de France's support aircraft came in the form of this C-160R from ET01.061 "Touraine" at Orléans :

18 Squadron provided the Chinook HC2A for the static display, caught here arriving on the Friday afternoon :

Image

Joining the Chinook in the rotary line-up was this Merlin HC3 from 28 Squadron :

Been a while since Leuchars Airshow has hosted a Ramstein Herk, and this was a welcome addition to the static display. Such a shame the LC-130 didn't make it however :

Image

One of the pair of Strike Eagles from the 492nd FS at Lakenheath, photographed here in some rather unpleasant conditions on the Friday morning :

Image

Thank goodness for the Czechs! They helped us during the Battle of Britain in 1940, so it is appropriate that they attend Leuchars Airshow :

Image

First time visit to Scotland by a Czech Air Force C-295M. A very welcome visitor, and the crew seemed happy to be here, despite the weather :

A couple of departing Hawks, firstly a Hawk T1A from 100 Squadron, followed by the display Hawk T1 from 208 Squadron :

And finally, 6 Squadron provided an impressive finale for the flying display. Great to see Typhoons using full afterburners!
