Photoflying days EBZR august 2011

Post by Bjorn »

I’ve seen very few photos from this event on here so far, so I’ll post a few of mine. Photo flying days and Air-to-air academy at EBZR in Belgium, August 2011. Many thanks to the Aviation Photocrew and ACPK aeroclub for this great experience! :yahoo:

Very nice pictures. I was also at the event and I have just posted some pictures in the General Aviation Photos section.

I will post some more tomorrow , but for now , I thought you might like to see the view from the back of the S-38 during the water landing (although I don't think that is me in your picture)

Shot number 7 ought to be really boring - but somehow the light is fantastic!

Of the others - numbers 4 and 5 are superb!

Hi Bjorn,

Wonderful to see you pictures. You got a fabulous selection. Love that close up of Jean-Michel Legrand in the Yak-18, and that Flamand looks beautiful. Wish I'd had it on my flight. Those T28s in #10 really stand out though for me.

Great to meet you in Belgium.

All the best,

Anthony.

Both of the French Skyraider shots are amazing. And the Russian aircraft in the foggy field. Excellent.

Thanks guys!
Cool to see the S-38 landing from that angle, thanks Mark! I don't recognize the backseat photographer in my shot, but it was taken during the last (third?) landing run on the canal. I heard that the roof hatch on the Ark had a tendency to slide back during flight, so we nicknamed it "the flying guillotine". But obviously you landed safely in one piece :)

Beautiful images. How hard is it to use slower shutter speeds while flying? Can't imagine it's a totally smooth ride!

Thanks guys!

Dean >> I actually found slower shutters to be quite easy. For the three bladed T-28s 1/80 was enough, while the two bladed ones required somewhere around 1/50 or slower, which of course resulted in more blurry ones.. The ride is bumpy all right, but on the other hand your target is just hanging there in front of you waiting to get shot at. Not all get sharp by a long way, but more than expected. Would have been nice to try one of those gyro stabilizers...
Groundshots like the one by Nigel Blake in one of the recent Duxford threads featuring a T-28 with full prop circle with the plane approaching the photographer, I find much harder to nail.
