Schneider Trophy 80th Anniversary Tribute

Post by vespasia »

I managed to get to Calshot today to catch the weather delayed celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Schneider Trophy. Sadly the remains of Hurricane Katia meant that participation was limited to 2 aircraft (the rest unable to make it in time). However John Russell's immaculate C172 Amphibian and Olivier Ripoche flying the French Skymax made a great sight and the small crowd enjoyed it:

Excellent record Steve. Thanks for capturing and posting. If you have some more please add them in - the european seaplane pilots have already been directed here to see what was achieved today. John and Olivier did very well! John and team put a huge amount of effort into making this possible. Olivier arrived at Lee-On-Solent airfield today with less than an hour to spare to join the flypasts.

Thanks JonE, some more as requested: unfortunatel I didn't manage to get any of Olivier leaving the water - it caught everybody by surprise when the landings were north of the spit!

Thank you Steve.

(Given the conditions - and powerboaters creating wakes in the npre-otified area - Olivier identified that site as the safest option for his operations. Although suitable for his smaller aircraft, too short by John to use for his own floatplane so each did what was safest for them - Piliot In Command's responsibility of course).

Nice to see some from the other side of the water!

I particulary like the one of the Cessna with yacht in the background.

How refreshing to see something different and very well processed with no over saturation.

Thanks for the comments everyone - this was a relatively small event, but no less important for that. The atmosphere was relaxed and informal but intimate. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole day. Thanks to the whole team who organised the event, which has to be considered a great success given the weather conditions on the 12th and 13th which affected the participation levels. I hope all who wanted to be involved but couldn't enjoy the pictures!

Hello all,

Saw these two planes at Daedalus/Lee-on-the-Solent yesterday (15th Spetmeber) in the afternoon.
Does someone has a radio callsign of the 78-AFH Sea max?

Best regards,
