IE9 Photo Viewing Problems

IE9 Photo Viewing Problems

Postby KJ994 on Sun 22 May 2011, 11:13 am

Morning guys

In response to prompts I uploaded a set of Windows updates this morning, plus IE9.

On restarting the computer (Windows Vista) I found the toolbars all over the place, but seem to have got that sorted.

The main issue is that when I log into UKAR and click on a thread, I get the dialogue but NO IMAGES! Very frustrating. Same with other UKAR-style sites, I get the text but no photos. The automatic pick-up from Photobucket and Flickr seems not to be working for some reason.

I'm no computer wizard as you'll gather, and perhaps there is an idiot-level solution. If so I'd be mighty glad if anyone can tell me what it is!

Thanks in advance. Robert

Putting the browser into compatibility mode (button in the address bar) should cure the problem for you.

Appears to be some sort of bug in IE9, but as I'm running Windows XP I can't use IE9 to test the problem.

Have you tried switching it off and back on again?

I have the same problem and, being a complete computer 'novice', can you please tell me where the "compatibility mode (button on the address bar)" is located?

Thank you in advance.

Hello David. Near the top left corner of your screen you'll see something like the following listed L to R:

File Edit View Favourites Tools Help

Click on Tools and a dropdown menu will open. Two-thirds down you'll see Compatibility View Settings. Proceed from there!

Better not to use Internet Explorer at all, especially for rendering images.

Compatibility mode should be at the right hand of the address bar - icon is a broken page.

Hello Robert,

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately Compatibility View Settings does not appear on the dropdown menu. It is me?

Rgds,

David

Problems viewing photos

Postby ChrisN on Sat 04 Jun 2011, 2:59 pm

Hi
Just wondering if anyone has had this problem. I've just upgraded to Internet Explorer 9 (running on Windows 7), but since doing so I can't see any photos on any of the forums - just a gap where the photos should be. Any ideas?

Click on the compatibility icon on the right of the address bar. This should resolve the problem.

On my previous laptop I 'upgraded' to IE9and totally hated it. Now when Windows says there are updated I never tick the IE9 installation. As for other browsers, having used IE for donkey's years, I have tried others but just can't get on with them.

My problem (and I'm not very PC literate) is that I have in the top right corner of my browser screen, a TOOLS menu, but there is no option listed for COMPATIBILITY VIEW SETTINGS.

It's not the top right corner of the browser, it's the right hand end of the address bar.

For the record it's not just the UKAR board that has problems with IE9, I've seen it on other sites too but running IE in compatibility mode seems to fix things. I wouldn't bother using IE unless absolutely essential.

I lost the ability to view pics on here a couple of months ago and just assumed it was my crappy laptop. Ianf pointed me in the direction of this thread, and all's well now! :D

Or simply use a decent web-browser instead of Internet Explorer :butt: Google Chrome knocks the pants of IE, Firefox is almost on a par with Chrome and Safari is also very good too!

How about a good way to bypass the company censor that has decided I really don't need to see pictures in their time - anyone have a cure for that?
