Shuttleworth Glider Tugs

Post by Orion »

One of the very welcome innovations for this season has been the appearance of vintage gliders at Old Warden. The only fly in the ointment is that the tug is not of the same generation as the gliders themselves. However, this raises the question of which aeroplanes would make an authentic combination. I have looked through my sources and cannot find a mention of glider towing during the 1930s, lot of mentions of bungee launching, but no mention of towing.

Has anybody any ideas?

Regards

Cirrus Moths and Tiger Moths used to do aerotows. The Germans used things like HS126's (it'd be great if the Shuttleworth got one of those!)
