Osan AB Air Power Day 2011

Post by eaglekepr »

Falling back into my old ways of not posting in a timely fashion... here are the catch from Osan AB's Air Power Day 2011 air show 29-30 October. Saturday was a bit of a bust, I was too far away from the show and the weather was dreadful so no pics... anyone that was inside the show might have gotten good wing vapors from the few aircraft that flew though.

Sunday was the day! Great weather all around for an air show. I feel spoiled... two air shows on consecutive weekends (after missing all of the UK season).

The Black Eagles again... better light than the week before! Unfortunately their #8 pilot was unable to fly so they pressed on with just a single solo.

A full-up Role Demo from the Osan based 25FS "Assam Draggins" (A-10C) and the 36FS "Flying Fiends" (F-16C) plus the 33RQS HH-60's based at Kadena, Japan. Flares aplenty!

Nothing like ending the show with a "flare"

A few more on my Flickr. I'll put up a few static snaps in a bit.

Pontiac G8 based on the Holden Commodore from Australia. Probably bought super cheap since Pontiac folded in 2009 and they had several thousand of these cars that they couldn't get rid of. An "escort" for the lady, not a Ford! :D

Fabulous! I love a lot of these, because they are not just "pictures of planes" - you caught some real drama there.

Did you use a starburst filter? Or does your lens "just do that"? Or is it some post-processing effect? Especially on the last shot (A10 dopping flares).

What is that black obelisk with a circle on it in the explosion pic? Was that the target? And they missed it?! :-D

Nothing so cumbersome as a star filter... just a small aperture from having the camera set for helicopters and not jets. The yellow circle is the airfield sign that tells pilots where the arresting cable is for emergencies.

Another smashing set of photos, particularly the A-10 shots. I must say that the T-50 is a fine looking jet trainer.
