Last Vulcan scramble-Finingley 1982
As the event has had a mention on 'staubyns' Finingley 1982 Airshow posting I will take the opportunity to re-post these shots of the four Vulcans that performed this last public 4-ship scramble . I had the good fortune to photograph them on the Friday press preview in beautiful autumn sunshine , unlike in the following days grey and dismal open day weather. As an interesting aside , I wonder if the 4 or 5 other 'photographers' with my escort on the press day , who just stood around bantering and not taking a single photo , ever regretted it .

Re: Last Vulcan scramble-Finingley 1982
I have just died and gone to heaven!!! but, that is September 1981 as XM648 was the display aircraft that day. I obtained the finingley finale video a few years ago and someone from the naughty field had filmed it, and it was awesome (sorry for the analogy but if i had used the f word i would get banned!), the other 3 went back to waddington after the flypast and XM648 did a touch and go but instead of going up like a rocket she banked to one side and pulled up!! I had pictures of it but in 1986 my mother sent the pictures to be developed, the company went bust and i never got those pictures back..
some of the signs that it is 1981 rather than 1982 is XL359 in 35 sqn colours as they disbanded in march of 1982 and XL444 was withdrawn on the 9th of September 1983 and 9 sqn was disbanded in april 1982. and i found my dads log from then!

Lovely photos, I only saw a 4 x Vulcan scramble once - at the 1977 St Mawgan Air show.
Sadly I doubt if we will ever see 35 or 44 Squadron again.

well no not in the air but the vulcan at Carlisle has both 35 and 27 sqn markings!

Another vote for 6, and 7 is a bit of a goodie too.

Great set of shots Fred ,
What squadron was XL359 flying with?
Don't think the other guys will reply , as most probably still upset

Re: Last Vulcan scramble-Finingley 1982
There is a clue if you see the tail of XL359 on the squadron number. I am not upset as I was there, albeit 9 years of age!

I remember being on camp with the ATC at Waddington in 1982 and while flying from Cranwell in a Chippy I saw a 4 ship scramble from Waddington, what a sight, especially from the air!

Very nice.... I really like the last one.
The thing about these is you will not see this ever again making your images that much more special.

This was 1981, as I didn't attend the 82 show and I've just found my pics of the scramble as well.
Re: Last Vulcan scramble-Finingley 1982
